. A Ruined Corn Crop. Not that we were ever in the Valley of the Nile but from what we have, read of it there must have been many farmers whose corn crops were ruined each year The Egyptians looked and prayer to their God for an abundance ol rains in the early seasons that tht Nile might overflow their lands and from the sediments of this overflow their lands received the highest kind of fertilization. This overflow was an assurance of a big crop of corn, and they greatly rejoiced when these overflows came, and would praise God for such great blessings. Many of these farmers never made anything but the finest of yields of corn, and, according to an old witticism among the farm ers, they did not make any nub bins for their pigs, and hence their crops were ruined. So the farmers of this country, and especially do we know more of this section, when we say thefr crop is ruined, and there will be no short ears or nubbing for the pigs. Our section looks like Egypt Never in our lives have we seen so much good corn, and the farm ers are happy over their prospects for an abundant yield. Cotton now looks good. Yes, too good, we are afraid, and if the boll rot or weevil does not attack it the prospects are most flattering. The farmers will all join us when we repeat “the corn crop is ruined” as per the homely illus tration of an old farmer who made no nubbins. If there is a little Joseph who may be sold by his brethren into this goodly ' land there will be enough for him, his father and all his brethren. —Pike County Journ al. Home Atmosphere. The atmosphere of the home is created by the parents. They are responsible for it. If the wnole trend of household talk and thought and ambition runs toward money-making or social conviv ialities, or general godlessness of any kind, it is the father and mother who gave the pitch. No where is it so difficult to make the best preaching or the best Sunday-school teaching effective on character as in the malarious air of such a home. As soon ex pect to rear oranges in Lapland, or grow sugar cane in Labrador, as to rear plants of grace in so god less an atmosphere. The parental influence penetrates through the house with as subtle a poison as escaping gas from an ill-built fur nace. As. Dr. Bushnell has pithi ly said in his incomparable book on Christian Nature: “Whatever fire the parents kindle, the child ren are found gathering the wood.”—Ex. Take This for Chills. Fevers, Malaria For a malarial condition with chills, fevers and sweats, take Foley’s “King of Malaria” Chill Tonic. It combines the virtues of quinine, without its unpleasant taste, with the strong purifying and tonic properties of iron. It gives appetite, strength and vital energy. Miss Rhoda Foster, Clark ville, Tenn., writes: “I suffered with chills every day, and what ever I took did me no good. A friend recommended Foley’s “King of Malaria” Chill Tonic and the first bottle I took stopped the chilis, and I felt well again.” The McDonough Drug Co. Bound To Get a Fit. “There is no such thing as a ‘soft job’ in the army,” Lieutenant Allen, of the Royal Berks Regi ment, w ho is here with the British 'Recruiting Mission, remarked the other day. “Yet there are men who will run the shoes off their feet trying to land one. The ef fort is out of all proportion to the results. Which, and speaking at the same time of shoes, reminds ine of something, that is said to have happened in the ranks of the Royal Irish Fusiliers. Private McDonough came into a trench from a raid one night with a fine pair of new shoes. “Where did you get them?” asked Private Doolin, who was McDonough’s bunkie. “I killed a German an’ took them from his feet,” replied Mc- Donough. “Ain’t they the illigent footwear, though?” “An’ its meself as will get a pair like ’em, was Doolin’s reply. Next Doolin was missing. Also the next day and for two days aft er. He was reported missing, be lieved to be dead. But on tht fifth day he reappeared in the trenches, displaying proudly a paii of German boots of even finer quality and fit than McDonough’s. “It took yez a long time,” was, the latter’s comment. “An’ don’t I know it,” said Doo lin. “I had to kill 64 Germans before I found a pair to fit me.” — Baltimore American. A trip across the Southern por tion of the State convinces us that there will be plenty to eat and to spare for man and beast in this section of Georgia for a twelve month at least. Never before have we seen so large acreages in food crops, all of which seem to be good and better. —Cuthbert Leader. Feel Worse After Vacation The change from outdoor ac tivity of vacation time to the quiet of regular employment sometimes makes one feel heavy aad “stuff ed up,” Uncomfortable and bilious, with a mean headache, a nervous unrest and thickly coated tongue. Instead of complaining that “a vacation does no good,’, it is bet ter to remove the trouble, which usually is the result of indigestion. Catarrhal Deafness Cannot Be Curea by local applications, as they cannot reach the diseased portion of the ear. There is only one way to cure catarrhal deafness, and that is by a constitutional remedy. Catarrhal Deafness is caused by an in flamed condition of the mucous lining- of the Eustachian Tube. When this tube is inflamed you have a rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and when it is entirely closed. Deafness is the result. Unless the inflammation can be reduced and this tube restored to iti normal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever. Many cases of deafness are caused by catarrh, which is an inflamed cpndition of the mucous sur faces. Hall’s Catarrh Cure acts thru the blood on the mucous surfaces of the sys tem. We will give One Hundred Dollars for any case of Catarrhal Deafness that cannot be cured by Hall's Catarrh Cure. Circulars free. All Druggists, 75c. F. J. CHENEY & CO.. Toledo. O. Athletes increase their strength, energy and endurance 200 per cent or more by simply taking a few weeks treatment of Argo-Phosphate. Atlanta, Ga. —Dr. F. A. Johnson says that Phosphates are just as es sential to any man or woman who tires easily, is nervous, or irritata ble, worn out, or looks haggard and pale to make a- strong, robust, vigo rous healthy body, as they are to cot ton to make it grow. The lack of Phosphate is the cause of all enemic conditions and the administration of 5-grain Argo-Phosphate tablets will increase the strength and endurance of weak, nervous, care worn men and women 300 per cent in two or three weeks time in many instances, and their continued use will build up the whole nervous system, and give new life, vim. vigor, and vitality to the whole body. I always prescribe Argo- Phosphate to patients who are pale and colorless, and it is surprising to see how quickly a few weeks treat ment will transform a pale face to a rosy checked beauty. There can be no rosy cheeked, healthy, beautiful women, without their system is suf ficiently supplied with Phosphates. In recent interviews with physicians on the grave and serious consequences of a deficiency of Phosphates in the blood of American men and. women. I have strongly emphasized the fact that doctors should prescribe more ph' sphetes in the form of Argo- Phosphate for weak, worn out, hag gard-looking men and women.
