Beersheba (Last Week’s Letter ) The weather and folks seem to be very much alike at present. The good sister who does all her domestic* work these icy days doesn’t have any time to gossip around. Mrs. Martin and children have moved into our settlement, buying the place best known as the Lumpkin Tollesor. home-place. Others have also moved in, and we welcome them. May we al ways live so as to make them know it’s good to be here. Mr. Carl Crowell and family spent Sunday with Mr. Henry Joyner and family. The saw mills and pea thresh seem to be on a stand still in this community. Sunday School at Sharon seems to be a little off. Don’t know whether it’s altogether weather or the folks. If the folks, hope they will if weather con tinues. Mr. Elijah Allen was seriously sick with pneumonia fever at his home in Atlanta, though a little better at this writing. Also his wife and baby. Hope for them speedy recovery. Tommie, was glad to read a scrip from you in the paper. Wish for you a happy new year. Prof. O. 0. T., how is all with you and yours. Wish you well. Observer, I was thinking last week if we could have an allday singing and afternoon listen to C. R. Mullins, C. H. Bottoms, Grif fin and Morris sing that song, Which Way Will You Go, then listen to the Rev. J. M. Gilmore of your town preach a real genuine gospel sermon, it would prepare us better to undergo the things of •today. Better even if A. C. Nor man and Jess Pendley would or couid appear at Sunday School and sing a few good hymns it would lift us on higher ground. Mrs. Otto Joyner and two chil dren have arranged to keep house to themselves —will move on the Irb Norman place a short distance from her sister, Mrs. Jack Turner, near the school and church. Dear Weekly and correspond ents, ye scribe has a lot this Mon day morning to be thankful for. All well except bad colds; not a doctor visited our home during these icy winter days; plenty good fire to keep all warm; but we know not how soon the dark days may come, for there is never a day so sunny but a little cloud ap pears. But our hearts are sad and made to blend to those who are cold and hungry, sick or wounded absent loved ones, espe cially the fathers, mothers, sisters and companions, whose loved ones have had to go to the train ing camps to be trained for the great and awful war which now confronts us. May God bless and comfort each of them; may we all trust in Him who is able to give us strength to bear these great trials and trounles. He has prom ised not to leave or forsake us if we will only trust him. Best wishes to all. Sleepy Eyes. The McDonough Drug Co. !!0!ilE GARDENS PJT STORE BILLS President Georgia Chamber Of Com merce Shows How Millions Ware Saved Last Year Atlanta, Georgia.—(Special.)—“More money was saved in 1917 through the medium of the home garden than ever before, the United States Department of Agriculture estimating that there were fully one million new gardens made last year,” says H. G. Hastings, President of the Southeastern Fair and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, in an interview reviewing the 1917 farming operations in the South. “Thousands upon thousands of our people in the South,’’ said Mr. Hast ings, “for the first time in their lives learned to appreciate the money sav ing power of the home garden, proper ly planned, prepared for, planted and kept planted during the entire sea son.” “Up to the present it has been very hard to get our people to consider the home garden seriously as a real sub stantial factor in food production with the consequent saving of money that went for food supplies at the store. Unless we are much mistaken the home garden will from now on be taken as seriously as any other part of the farm work. “A quarter to a half acre devoted to a variety of vegetables liked by the family can be kept going nearly the whole year in the South and give its owner as much as the product of two or three acres of cotton, even at pres ent pricefe, will buy at the store. The right kind of a garden means an abundance of healthful food during spring, summer and fall and an abund ance either canned or dried for win ter use.” “Let no one be fooled by the lies spread abroad that the Government is going to seize home canned goods on closet shelves in the farm or home. These lies are started by Ger man agents for the express purpose of discouraging our people in increased food production and saving. Few can go to the firing line, but all can join in and have a part in home produc tion of food. “We have never seen a permanent ly prosperous farm section either in the United States or in foreign coun tries that was not a diversified sec tion, and in every diversified section the home garden has an honored and valued place. The home garden is a store bill cutter of the first rank.” • Boschee’s German Syrup. will quiet your cough, soothe the inflammation of a throat and lungs, stop irritation in the bronchial tubes, insuring a good night’s rest, free from coughing and with easy expectoration in the morning.
