W. JEFF LESTER. B.v E. M. SMITH, J. H. McCALLA, Atty's for Applicant FOSD FACTS PREPARED BY 3 The FcJoral Food Admin istration For Georgia More American Corn Being Used. Interesting information ju.-t receiv ed by 1 ;r. A. M. Soule, through Wash ington, from foodstuffs reports from abioad, is that there is now a constantly increasing use of American to n for food abroad. England and France knew compar atively nexh ng of the human food value of ‘maize” before the war and, until recently, had begun to learn but slowly how and‘when and why to use it. The people of these countries, though, are finding its place in the every-day diet and in the course of time there w ill be more and more cali for corn as that knowledge becomes more widespread. This is but one more of the many reasons why the South, and particu larly Georgia, must give better atten tion to a larger production of corn than has been in the past years. Reducing City Flour Quantities. From the office of the Federal Food Administration for Georgia , there is now going out a request to all retail merchants that they increase their ef forts to bring about a still further con servation of flour among their patrons. They are asked not only to hold their sales to 24 and 48 pound" packages, but to use their influence with customers to take the package when !hey call for 48, and try to get through with that. In the same request is the further plea that they get in behin < the conservation of sugar and adhere to the 5 and 10 pound packages, an do all they can to persuade individual purchases to come under 10 pounds at a time. Back Up the Card System. Some localities in the state are making report to Federal Food Admin istrator Andrew M. Soule that the spir it and letter of fairness of the flou tard system is not being properly ob served. Cases in complaint are that here is a practice to some extent of Tying to double up by securing mo;;< than one card in the specified time ind thereby accumulating more that i fair and eoißtable amount of flour The system \va* especially designe to aid the people in the country die tricts and, in the main, they are a r jepting it in that spirit and co-ope it ng in its operation, but there is : scattered disinclination to “tote fair.’ Each county administrator has been idvised bv Dr. Soule to require a week v report made of every card issued that these reports be checked and where “it is found that any person s trying to evade the law by obtain ng cards fr-m more than one coun y administrator or repre entetive o a, county administrator in cne nmnC tie be prom tlv resorted to th ! P. office that his case may be vigorously han iled.” Want More Wheat And Sugar. Further warning has come to the iff!ce of th- Food Administration for Georg a that there is need for more *aving in both flour and sugar. To date the export of wh°at to ihc illies in the war country is 82,000 tons behind the agreed-on prorram of hip nent, and the deficit isn’t diminishing. For two months this country has beer, hearing f ora abroad that seriousn ss if the army food situation is increas ng and will continue to increase un.tr 1 r he United States can put the necessi ties “over there” in sufficient quantity ;o meet actual demands. Milled flour can’t te shaped from this country in large quantifies because •f +he ■ cti i’y cf ihe germ after it is 2 fed: therefore, in order that there will be no loss, the wheat must be ’• ip ed and milled aft”r arrival.
