Atlanta.—The last day In which to
make income tax returns, closed with
a day’s receipts of more than three
million dollars in the vaults of the in
ternal revenue office to be deposited in
the federal reserve bank. Deposits
have been made by A. O. Blalock, col
lector, every night during the two
weeks when the returns began. Most
of the money received by Mr. Blalock’s
force was in checks, though a few At
lantians paid in cash. The great bulk
of the money was received by mail,
every train entering Atlanta bringing
in hundreds of returns. Mr. Blalock
estimated that more than ten thousand
returns were received by mail alone.
A force of ten clerks was kept busy
opening the mail and extracting the
checks. "What ordinarily is spread out
into three months has been accom
plished within two weeks. Mr. Blalock
said that he estimated that fifty thou
sand returns would be made within
this period, though the correct
amounts from each person have not
been checked, owing to the stupendous
amount of work connected with the
actual handling of the returns.

Honey Found In Tree Tops.
Quantities of honey are found in the
African forests by the natives in hol
low trees. The honey is generally at
the summit of the tree, and the men
knock down the tree, and smoke the
bees out of their lodging with burning
grass. The honey is then quickly col
lected and taken to camp.

CHANGE DATE
CAMPAIGN FOR $25,000,000 IN M. E.
CHURCH, SOUTH, CENTENARY
DRIVE WILL BE HELD
MAY 18-25.
The date for the Methodist Cen
tenary financial campaign has changed
from April 27-May 4 to May 18-25, of
ficial announcement of which is being
made throughout the length and
breadth of Methodism today. Several
weeks ago it was found necessary to
change, the April date in order not to
interfere with the Government plans
for the forthcoming Victory Loan
Drive. The selection of another date
bas been held in abeyance pending the
decision from Washington which was
forwarded headquarters of the M. E
Church, South, recently.
The change in this date is of wide
import to all Methodists who are, at
this time, lining up plans of definite
action regarding their part as Individ
uals in the campaign. Dr. W. B. Beau
champ, Secretary of the Centenary
Commission, stated today that he and
other Centenary workers at headquar
terc have, through Secretary Carter
Glass, pledged the loyal support of all
Southern Methodists to the govern
ment at this crucial hour and that in
setting May 18-25 as a date for the
Centenary drive, he knows he will
have the immediate and hearty co
operation of all conference secretaries,
directors, field representatives and all
workers connected with the campaign.
The Methodist Centenary financial
campaign is the largest religious cam
paign undertaken in the history of the
world One hundred and fifteen mil
lion do’lars is the goal set —Southern
Methodists pledging themselves to
raise thirty-five million of that sum.
