MOUNT BETHEL NEWS.
1 have been absent from the
of The Weekly for several
weeks. There, now ! that’s great
news to everyone all over the
county.
Wasn't it a lovely Easter?
Blue Monday again, but we are
all too busy to realize.
Some are having good success
with chickens, most a hundred on
the yard, others have as many
as seven, and the Plymouth Rock
has quit her nest and is running
around helping the hen with seven
to bring up her brood. So it goes,
just like folks for all the world.
Fruit is very scarce on the trees,
but for that reason it will be so
much finer and larger.
Gardens are mostly late, but
when the sunshine warms the
earth and the spring rains fall
they will grow so fast you will
forget they were late.
Mr. Crate Moore says that when
a man goes to buv meat in town
now the groceryman just whets
his knife and asks, “What next?”
Mrs. W. N. Austin and Mrs.
Fannie Jones spent a few days in
Atlanta last week.
■ Mr. John Stone of near McDon
ough, who owns property in this
community, has had his buildings
treated to a fresh coat of paint,
which adds very much to the ap
pearance of his place.
a
Miss Ruth Bledsoe, one of Atlan
ta’s most excellent young ladies,
is visiting Lila Bledsoe.
Jesse Vickers of Atlanta spent
the week-end with Robins and
Nellie Hooten.
Mr. and Mrs. Will Lane spent
several days in Atlanta last week.
Mrs. Maude Smith of Lithonia
visited her sister, Mrs. S. W. Whit
aker, last week.
Dr. Gibson Hooten, with his
wife and little son, came up from
Broinvood to visit his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. S. P. Hooten, last Thurs
day. Dr. Hooten returned home
Friday, but Mrs. Hooten and son,
Billie, will extend their visit a few
days.
Mr. and Mrs. F. B. and Loy
Strahn and Mr. J. E. and Paul An
drews attended the funeral of
Mrs. Will F. Andrews at Oak Hill
last Tuesday.
Mrs. Nettie Stroud and son Har
old came down from Atlanta and
spent the week-end with Mr. and
Mrs. C. E. Jeffares.
School closed for this term at
Beersheba last week. It has been
a most successful and pleasant
term. The teachers, Misses Ethel
Anderson and Thelma Barnett,
won the admiration and respect of
pupils and patrons, and we wish
to thank them for their kind in
terest and unflagging faithfulness.
We heartily welcome our new
correspondent from Wynn’s Mill.
All the ladies who have ever
been members of Mount Bethel
Sunday school and those who
would like to become members
are urgently requested to be pres
ent next Sunday afternoon at 3:00
o’clock slow time and receive a
glad welcome to the Ladies Bible
Class.
Mrs. S. P. Hooten went up to
Atlanta last Wednesday to make
fhe acquaintance of her new little
granddaughter, a little girl, who
came to the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Arthur Young. MIS’ FRANC.

In Memory
Of Charles Rj LeGuinn, who de
parted this life Nov. 18th, 1918,
at the age of sixteen.
“Death loves a shining mark.”
The meaning of this proverb was
forcefully realized when the dread
Reaper carried Charles away.
Those who knew him best loved
him most; never too busy with
His own interest to stop to do for
others. If possible, it seems in
some respects he was self-sacri
ficing to a fault. His life was
beautifully lived and unselfishly
spent. He obeyed the bible in
junction: “Honor thy father and
mother,” and was implicitly obe
dient. He would give up his most
cherished plans, if parents thought
best, without one word of dissent.
He obeyed their requests; he
needed no commands. He de
lighted in making home happy,
and as far as he could, in making
it attractive.
“His daily prnycr, far better understood
In acts than words.
Was simply doing good.”
He being the youngest son and
of such rare and noble traits, had
caused his parents to feel that on
him they would lean in old age. He
was unusually tender-heartdd and
considerate of others. He united
with the church at the age of ten
years and attended New Hope
regularly from babyhood. How
strange we feel not to see his
bright, cheerful face when we as
semble for services now, and es
pecially is he missed at Sunday
school. In literary school he al
ways had the warm friendship of
teachers and pupils. His teachers
wrote letters attesting his faithful
ness. He was quiet and unassum
ing, but oft times in homes spark
ling with wit ana humor v
In last illness he suffered, but
bore his sufferings with Christian
fortitude and patience that made
those at his bedside marvel.
In school, in home, at work or
at play, he filled, his place indus
triously and conscientiously. Tru-
ly, Charles was a rare child and
“earth life” is poorer since he went
away, and the sudden disappear
ance of such a presence from us
sends us to gazing more steadfast
ly toward the heaven which has
received him out of our sight.
Christ said, “I go to prepare a
place for you.” A Living Presence
will guide us toward the one
whose love we cherish.
Loved Ones.
“A Good. Oid-Fashioned Physic.”
Foley Cathartic Tablets, a whole
some physic, thoroughly cleanse
the bowels, sweeten the stomach,
tone up the liver. For indiges
tion, biliousness, bad breath, bloat
ing, gas, or constipation, no reme
dy is more highly recommended.
Wm. 0. E. Bielke, Hancock, Mich.,
writes: “I have given Foley Ca
thartic Tablets a thorough trial
and I can honestly recommend as
a mild but sure laxative. They
work without grioing.” Give
stout persons a free, .light feeling.

How Diphtheria is Contracted.
One often hears the expression.
“My child caught a severe cold
which developed into diphtheria.”
when the truth was that the cold
had simply left the little one par
ticularly susceptible to the wan
dering diphtheria germ. If yonr
child has a cold when diphtheria is
prevalent yon should take him our
of school and keep him off the
street until fully recovered, as
there is a hundred times more
danger of his taking diphtheria
when he has a cold. When Cham
berlain’s Cough Remedy is given it
quickly cures the cold and lessens
the danger of diphtheria or any
other germ disease beingcontract

Learn to Talk.
All very well, to quote the old say
ing about speech being silvern, but
silence golden. Learn to talk, if you
want to get on in the world. There
are some folk who talk too much, it’s
true, but they are better than those
who are mute and wrapped up in them
selves. A wall of reserve isn’t at all
a pleasant thing to come up against.
