rVi > CONTR The Henry County Weekij VOL. XLV. IN MEMORY OF BOYS WHO FELL IN FRANCE Noble Women of Henry Plan To Erect a Memorial Build ing—An Appeal That Should Meet With Hearty Response. Because of sacrifices made by the boys of Henry county in the world war, and to commemorate those who gave their all in the struggle for Democracy, the Mc- Donough Woman’s Club in con junction with the other clubs of the county and United Daughters of Confederacy propose to build a fitting memorial to that sacrifice. The ladies believe that such a monument should be not lifeless stone, but one that shall prove a blessing to' the Democracy that those brave boys sacrificed or died to save. So it is proposed to build a library and rest room in the county seat at McDonough. Realizing that such a work would require years rather than months for financing the move ment, it has been proposed to form a Memorial Association com posed of all the patriotic citizens of Henry county —those who truly appreciate the sacrifice of their sons —and to ask that each mem ber pledge himself to make a sub- Telephone Your Wants. ’Phone 139. My faith and confidence in the people of Henry county and McDonough cannot be questioned, viz: The past six months have seen numerous changes in our flourishing little city, and among these changes I have taken over the old McDonald property (formerly used by Dr* McDonald) and estab lished verily a little beauty parlor; namely The City Drug Store a place where the public receives the best of service combined with the best, cleanest and purest of everything* The people have been quite free in expressing their sentiments to me of the need of such a place, and in appreciation of this they have given us their patronage, which I hope to merit* Anything bought from the CITY DRUG STORE must be satisfactory; if it doesn't meet or prove so return same and your money will be refunded to you cheerfully* Our help is instructed that if a drink served to you is not just as you like it for only the asking you may have one to suit you, without any cost to you* Lest you forget: My Dry Goods Store is filled with the latest styles in Cloaks, Suits, Dresses, Skirts and Waists, and a beautiful array of Dry Goods. Also a big line of Boys and Men s Wear. \ Sells For Less CHAS. D. In addition to this, the clubs and U. D. C.’s will raise by their own efforts an additional sum, so that at the end of that period a memo rial might be built that will be a fitting representation of our love and appreciation. It is only fair to give an oppor tunity for contribution to every family in Henry county, for the boys were their representatives. The McDonough Woman’s Club merely begs to offer their services in helping to raise the necessary funds and carry out the move ment. This memorial is very dear to the hearts of the club and has occasioned them much thought and planning since last November. This letter is to you in pos session of these facts and to give you an opportunity of expressing your patriotism, love and appreci ation by contributing to the cause. Therefore if you think the occa sion warrants and you desire to j have a part in this memorial to 1 the brave young manhood, living I and dead, who represented Henry j county in the world war, will you please send or hand to Mrs. Whit Turner your name and pledge or give it to one of the workers whose names will be given out later. Let your contribution be accord ing to the measure of your ability and your interest in these boys and it will be welcomed and appre ciated. It is hoped that everyone will take part in this great work of patriotism. McDonough Woman’s Club. CHAS. D. NEWMAN Sells For Less McDonough, Georgia, Friday. McDonald in Atlanta, the life of Rev. T. J. Bledsoe came to the inevitable end. For some time past Mr. Bledsoe had been in declining health from Bright’s disease, and patiently he awaited the final result. A man of strong character, un yielding integrity and uprightness, as a minister and citizen he was |an uncompromizing exemplar of that which was good and true. In a life of seventy-five years, he was widely known as one of Henry county’s best and most sub stantial citizens, tiis true worth being appreciated by numerous friends, who sympathize with the bereaved ones and sincerely re gret his passing. The Weekly trusts to furnish a fitting tribute to his memory later. The remains were brought down from Atlanta Wednesday morning and laid to rest beside his depart ed wife in McDonough cemetery, funeral services being conducted by Rev. J. M.
