The Henry County Weekly By J. A. FOUCHE. Entered at the postoffice at McDon ough, Ga., as second olassmail matter. Advertising Rates 15c per inch, posi tion 5c additional —special contracts* Official Organ of Henry County. McDonough, Ga., Nov. 14, 1919. The coal miners seem to have struck out. By the way, Mr. Barnes, what time is it ? These mornings are a trifle cool for B. V. D’s. Good morning. Have you read The Weekly ? Give your limit and then some more to the memorial fund. All you need is a heart and a dollar to join the Red Cross. t The pay roll of a cotton or knit ting mill is worth going after. What Sunday school do you attend ? Don’t be a corner loafer. Didn’t see you at Sabbath school last Sunday. Don’t be a slacker. With plenty of juice (electric) and ice during the summer we should worry. Now that we have plenty of electric power, let's go after manu facturing plants. A nice Christmas present—a year’s subscription to The Henry County Weekly. If we had a few more J. G. Smiths in our midst McDonough would soon be some town. Now that you’ve gathered your cotton. How about letting us “gather” your subscription ? Some folks sing, “If Jesus goes with me I’ll go, anywhere,” but we doubt it —even if he had a lan tern. When that 5,000 pounds of “moonshine” sugar is turned loose guess we’l! get some sweetnin' in ourn. , Gen. Pershing recommends the promotion of five generals, but the name of Gen. Wood does not appear. If you want anything, this day and time, you must go after it, applies to towns as well as indi viduals. Sergeant York made a short talk in Atlanta for which he real ized SI,OOO. Still the claim is made there’s nothing in a name. The recommendation of the grand jury in regard to autoists is good and we hope their sugges tion will be rigidly enforced. Cotton pickin’ time Just about over, Ole nigger wid de possum Soon be in clover. Why condemn the opium and cocaine habit when dopes are more injurious, as it numbers, its victims from the youngest to the oldest. On every side improvements can be seen going on in McDon ough. All we need to have a bet ter town is to get a little more hustle on us. County Police. Recommending the creation of of the office of County Policeman, the Jones county grand jury uses this caustic language in their re cent general presentments: “While oQr best people are re joicing over the triumphant spread of temperance sentiment through out the country, until State and National governments have united their au hority and might to de stroy the nefarious liquor busi ness, low grade citizens in our midst, white and black, despising government, have been making, handling, selling and drinking in toxicating liquors. We are amaz ed and shocked by the fact that some who occupy prominent po sitions move in decent society and pose as defenders of law and or der, to allow themselves dragged down by thirst for strong drink into association and partnership in criminal lawlessness with these law-breakers, and buy, drink and transport their illegal product. Shall we count one who deliber ately commits an unlawful act by stilling intoxicants an unworthy citizen and esteem their patrons worthy of honor ? Let reason and conscience answer. “A stream of liquor and blood has flown throughout our county and sadly stained its fair name. The shame stripes we would erase if we could, but in a large measure our hands are tied there are none to molest. Under these con ditions and growing tendencies, we are convinced that action is now necessary, and we therefore recommend and earnestly urge that our County Commissioner create the office of County Police man, and seek beyond the con fines of the county, not even be prescribed by State lines, in quest of a man who measures up to the requirements of such office. The money paid such art officer as a salary would be insignificant as compared to the amount forced out of the pockets of tax payers for the trial of parties charged with crimes as a direct result of violations of the prohibion law, to say nothing of the quiet and peace that would pervade our homes under the consciousness that they had some protection.” Advertising Increase. In its issue of October 23, The Dublin Courier-Herald carried an eight page advertisement of the Laurens Hardware Company and it was so entertaining that we sat still and read it. This is like advertising is done in the big cities and is what makes cities grow large. We have often said to timid merchants during the past fifteen years that it would surely come to pass in our day that Yankees would not be the only users of advertising. The time has come within the past two years. Maybe it is because the govern ment used so many miles of news paper inches for big and serious work. Anyhow, all the papers, big and little, are feeling the change. Both farmers and mer chants are using the ad that travels fastest and cheapest and stays at the home of a possible customer, until he comes in, and the printed salesman has endless patience and never forgets its speech. —Irwin Bulletin, A Good Cough Medicine for Children Mrs. J. W. Phillips, Redon, Ga., phoned to J. M. Floyd, the mer chant there, for a bottle of Cham berlain’s Cough Rouiedy and said she bad bought a bottle of it at his store recently- and that it was doing her children so much good that she wanted to keep up the treatment. Yoq will find nothing better for coughs and colds in chil dren or for yourself. It keeps tlie cough loose, expectoration easy and soon frees the system from cold. For sale by Horton Drug Co. HENRY COUNTY WEEKLY, McDONOUGH, GEORGIA “My son,” paid old man Reddit, “Take this advice from me: The less you use your credit The better it will be.” Only a Cold. Are you ill ? is often answered : “Oh ! it’s only a cold,” as if a cold was only a matter of little conse quence, but people are beginning to learn that a common cold is a matter not to be trifled with, and that some of the most serious dis eases start with a cold. As soon as the first indication of a cold appears take Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy Remember that the sooner yon get rid of vonr cold the less the danger, and this remedy will help you throw it off.
