Help Build Up Your Town Perhaps some of you think we are rather overdcing the matter when we harp so continually upon making a gooi impression as a town, on outsiders. You may thoughtlessly argue that it doesn’t make any difft what other people think—that we know what we have and that is all that is nec essary. That is not all that is necessary. If it were, we may rest assured that we now have aii we will eve? get. In order to progress it is necessary to secure'favorable a ; tention outside of our own city. We must induce good ..ye folks t > make their home m our town, and we must encourage outside busi ness men to consider our advan tages from a commercial stand point. This is never accomplished by a spiri* of isolation —by a spirit of smug complacency. We've got to go keep moving ami toot our horn at the street crossings. Unless you take pride in your home town, how cm von expect others to do so? U. ss \ u work for its grow di rid acv uioement, how can viai expert < nets to bo inteiesied mi ? What composes a town anyway? Is a town the streets, the business houses, the residences that happen to have been placed on a few blocks of earth? No —a town is the people that make up the population. Is it the traveling men who come on one train and leave on the next? Is it.the tourists that go through in their cars? No—it’s the people who spend their lives within its borders —who put the imprint ot' their personality upon its customs, its ordinances, ns appearance. In that case, whose fault is it if the town looks a little seedy —if traveling men occasionally say it is a good place to die in? It is nobody’s fault but the citizens oi the town who persistently knock it. The growtli and development of a town is in inverse ratio to the number and strength of its knock ers. Regardless of what your rep utalion for veracity may be at home, people are going to believe you abroad when you say your town is on the dead list. So put a pad lock on your tongue if you want your town to improve. If you have made up your mind to live in a town, then stand up for it, and if you know positive y no good, then silence is golden Want to Feel Just Right?
