LAND IS WANTED
FOR EX-SOLDIERS
The Government Is planning to
Purchase a Big Tract and
Colonize Former Vocational
Students.
#
Atlanta, Ga. —Announcement is
made that the United States gov
ernment is now considering Geor
gia a suitable place in which to se
cure a tract of land ranging in
size from 500 to 2,000 acres to be
subdivided into small farms and
sold on easy payments to former
soldiers who have undergone vo
cational training. Dr. W. J. Quick,
special agent of the government,
and M. Bryson, district officer in
charge of vocational training work,
put the proposition before the
Atlanta chamber of commerce and
the chamber will aopoint a com
mittee to receive offers from land
owners anywhere in Georgia.
Mr. Quick stated that the pur
pose of the plan was two-fold;
first, to colonize veterans of the
world war, and second, to assist
them in gaining a fresh start. The
government will aid the men in
many ways by furnishing them
with expert advice, medical atten
tion and by giving them trucks,
tractors and farm imple
ments.
Such colonies have already been
established in several states, the
plan in each case having been pro
ductive of the best results. The
idea of those promoting the pro
ject is to have some fifty or more
farms established on one large
tract, rather than the scattering
here and there of small tracts
throughout the state.
Anyone having such a tract is
invited to get in touch with the
chamber of commtrce. The land
should be near a railroad and
close to a good highway. It was
pointed out that thousands of
former soldiers are at present
undergoing a course of agricul
tural training and are eager to be
come the owner of a farm. During
the period of rehabilitation these
men are paid from SIOO to $135
per month by the government.
Many are saving th : s money for
the purpose of buying land.
With the aid and encourage
ment of the national government
in their plans, it is thought the
establishment of such a project
offering them the chance they
have long sought to become farm
owners will be eagerly taken ad
vantage of by ex-soldiers through
ont the state. The farms will be
bought by individual farmers, and
it was estimated that an easy pay
ment plan will be devised where
by those desiring to buy can do so
by paying one-fifth in cash and
the remainder in installments.

Improvement of Homes.
We are pleased to see many of
our citizens taking active interest
in improving their homes and
grounds. A little effort on the
part of each citizen would give our
town a prominent position upon
the map. Nature has done much
for us in picturesque scenery, now
let us do much for ourselves along
the impiovi ment line.
Harding Can Not Be
At the Inauguration
In a letter to Governor-elect T.
W. Hardwick Monday President
Harding expressed regrets fhat he
would not be able to attend the
inaugural ceremonies to be held
next Saturday in Atlanta, but that
he has planned to visit Atlanta
and Georgia in the coming fall or
winter.
President Harding and Mr.
Hardwick were friends while both
were in the senate, and when Mr.
Hardwick was elected governor of
Georgia the president congratulat
ed him and expressed his desire
to attend his into office. Because
of the press of official business in
Washington, in connection with
the session of congress and vari
ous diplomatic matters, it will be
impossible for him to come.
A wise executive no longer com
mands his employers. He says to
them, “Let us work this thing out
together and share together.”

Home Made
SELF-RISING FLOUR
is becoming more popular ev
ery day. In making self-ris
ing flour at the mill only the
purest of Soda, Phosphate
and Salt are used, and it is
handled in an absolute sani
tary way.
Self-rising flour eliminates
every possibility of making a
mistake in bread making, and
is quite a convenience to the
housewife. She has the sat
isfaction of knowing that her
baking will be just right ev
ery time.
You will find that freshly
made self-rising flour is quite
different to that made in the
far west which is ofttimes a
year old when used.
A trial will convince you,
and will thank you for that
chance. Of course we will
make it plain if you do not
want self-rising.
Thanking you for past pat
ronage and hoping to merit a
continuance of same,
We are truly yours,

STORAGE BATTERY
No S-O-S with P-O-L
THERE was once a Trawler that Coaled for a
Normal Trip. But there came the Northwest
Gale. And the ship exhausted her Bunker Coal
in the Fight to Reach Port. And the Crew did
burn Everything but the Hull to Keep up Steam!
There are motorists whose battery has appar
ently enough power for the trip. But they pull
that power down with too many stops and starts
to the mile. And when they need just one more
start to reach "port”, the battery gives up the
ghost.
The Prest-O-Lite Battery uses less than one four
hundredth of its power-reserve for a single start—
and the generator quickly replaces that.
