FIND 1,200 WEIVILS ON ME MICH The tell weevil is already stir ring in Terrell county, in fact the greatest enemy of the Georgia farmer is displayan activity that is dangerous to the planters as it disquieting. On the farm of Messrs. Raines and Hollingsworth, about four miles beyond Chickasawhatchee, the cotton acreage was heavily in fested with the pest. The owners were unable to cope with the weevils by having the negroes on the farm pick them and the situa tion was indeed grave. At the last time picking was attemled upward of twelve hundred of the cotton pests were found and there seemed to be no indication of the prolific, destructive weevils di minishing. Messrs. Rains and Hollingsworth decided that a determined effort must be made at once to com pltely eradicate the cotton desroy ers. At the suggestion of Lowrey Sc Davidson, who are local agents for Hill's Mixture, a well known boll weevil exterminator, about five gallons of the poison were taken out to the farm to experi ment on the worst infested acres. Last Thursday the Hill’s Mixture was thoroughly applied to fifteen acres of the most densely populat ed with the insects. Tuesday morning the same acres were in spected by a large number of prominent Terrell and Dougheriy county planters who are in the same fix regarding the boll weevil as Messrs. Raines and Ilollings worth. The negroes again went over the fields in question and found only five live weevils, while numbers of dead ones wers scat tered all over the plants and down on the ground between the rows. Tnen a live weevil was taken sne placed on a plant which had been mopped with Hill’s Mixture on last Thursday. The weevil gnawed or chewed at the leaf for a little while and then fell off the plant dead. Messrs. Raines and Hollingsworth were delighted with the results, and intend to use the poison on the remainder of of the plantation. Besides the Terrell county planters who witnessed the sight there were Messrs. Theo Irwin and Charles Burice of Americas, I. O. Thomas and J. D. Moseley, Bird Odom and Charles Mallory of Albany, and Julian Barrett of Augusta. Mr. Barrett represent ed the Hill’s Mixture Company of Augusta, while the rest of the gentlemen arc prominent cotton men in their respective towns. Chicken Dinner.
