The recent settlement and rapid improvement of this

i-nt apokuw in the estimation of the Proprietor and Edi
)‘“f this iraper, for establishing an additional source of
intellicor.ee to the one already in operation, in that pari of
the State known as the Cherokee country. The arrange
ment first entered into by the Proprietor, the annuncia
tion of which, has been, given, is now totally abandoned,
and the undersigned has taken upon lamself the respon
sibility of managing the editorial department oftlic Wes
tern Herald. , .
In entering upon the discharge of the important duties
incumbent on him in that capacity, he is only consoled
withtiie reflection, that his feelings are well understood
bv all those who have gone before him, beating their way
through the labarynths of political life. In the assump
tion of this responsibility, he is conscious of the difficulties
which await him at the threshhold es his career and t.ic
impossibility of administering successfully to the various
wants and inclinations of the great mass of those, who
may from time to time, look to this harbinger, for p.eas
iag intelligence of the passing times.
