Mrs. V. A. Harper will open a first
class, up to date millinery establish¬
ment in the store of M. Levin on
March 1st Mrs. Harper will spend
the month of Febreary in several of
the large millinery parlors in Atlanta,
where she will purchase one of the
most complete lines of spring millinery
ever displayed in this city.
Mr. and Mrs. Luther H. Still and
two children, of Atlanta, were guests
last weekofMr. and Mrs. E. M. Piper.
Mr. Still at one time held a position
with The Covington Star and has a
large circle of friends here. He now
holds a position in the mechanical de¬
partment of the Atlanta Constitution.
Mr. H. W. King and wife of Siloam,
spent this week with their parents,
Mr. and Mrs. W. R. King, at Kings.
Mr. King is a former resident of this
county and has a large number of
friends who are always glad to wel¬
come him here.
Mrs. G. W. Johnson, Miss Minnie
George and Miss Marie Coffee, of
Lithonia, attended the Fitzpatrick
Blackmon wedding here last week and
were guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. T.
Swann.
Mrs. Jack Cooper and little daughter
of Brunswick, and Miss Mamie Nell
Summers, of New Orleans, La., spent
the week end as the guests of Mrs. M.
F. Richardson in Midway.
Miss Susie Griffin, of Helena, is the
attractive guest of Misses Maggie and
Carrie Davis. Miss Griffin formerly
lived here and was one Covington's
most popular young ladies.
Miss lama Milner returned to the
G. N. I. college at Milledgeville this
week, after a very pleasant visit to
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Mil¬
ner, on Floyd street.
Dr. and Mrs. J. W. Lee were guests
of honor at a beautiful Christmas din¬
ner in Atlanta at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. C. A. McKibben on Spring street.
Mr. and Mrs. Fitzhugh Lee on Pied¬
mont avenue, Atlanta, had with them
during the Christmas holidays Dr. and
Mrs. J. W. Lee, of Covington.
Mr. and Mrs. L. D. King, Jr., of
Atlanta, spent the holidays with their
parents, Capt. and Mrs. I. D. Brisen
dine, in North Covington.

Mrs. L. G. Evans returned to her
home at Lithonia last week after a

of Eatonton, were guests of Dr. and
Mrs. E. H. Adams last week.
Misses Maude and Adie Preston, of
Shady Dale, were the guests of Miss

Mr. R. L. Scarborough, one of
Rockdale’s clever farmers, came down
Monday and spent several hours in
Covington on business. Mr. Scarbor¬
ough is a former resident of the coun¬
ty and said he wanted The News of
Newton for the next twelve months.
Mrs. William C. Clark leaves today
for a two months stay in Atlanta.
During her stay in the Gate City, Mrr.
Clark’s residence will be at Cone
street. Miss Ophelia Terrell will oc¬
cupy the Clark home in North Cov¬
ington during her absence.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. P. Shingler have
returned from a visit to Donaldson
vilie and will make their home with
the bride’s mother, Mrs. A. M. Tur¬
ner, in North Covington, until their
beautifid cottage in Oxford is com¬
pleted.
Mr. T. J. Ramsey, former manager
of the Farmers’ Union Warehouse
here, has resigned his position and
moved his family to his home in Stan
sells district. Mr. Ramsey will enter
the mercantile business.
Mr. H. E. Strong, who has been
connected with C. A. Harwell, leaves
on January 13th for New Orleans,
from there he sails about the 25tli for
Buenos Ayres, South America.
Miss Maude Parr, of Conyers, was
the guest of Miss Ruth Brisendine
several days of last week.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hutchins, of
Atlanta, were guests last week of Mr.
and Mrs. J, E. Hutchins.
Dr. 0. L. Holmes and Mr. J. J.
Fincher, oT Stewart, were visitors to
the city Tuesday.
Miss Mary Speer, of Newborn spent
the holidays with Mrs L. D. Adams
on Floyd street.
Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Williams visited

The Bank of Covington is issuing

season, and have been distributing

Just after Dr. P. D. Mahoney’s re¬
turn to Birmingham after a week’s
visit to Covington, he received a tele¬
gram from his brother in Springfield,
Mass., stating that his mother was at
the point of death, and he left imme¬
diately for that city.
Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Sockwell spent
several days last week at Hogansville
the guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. M.
Mobley. While there Mrs. Sockwell
was the guest of honor at a beautiful
entertainment given by Mrs. Mobley.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest E. Parker and
baby leave today for Ellington, S. C.
Mrs. Parker and baby will remain in
the Palmetto state for several months
while Mr. Parker will return to Cov¬
ington within the next week.
Mr. J. R. Sammons, formerly of this
county, but who now resides in Rock¬
dale, came down Friday to Covington
on busiuess and while here dropped
in and authorized us to send him The
News for a year.
Mr. Bonnie Clotfelter, who has been
with Drs. W. H. Lee & Son, druggists
at Conyers for several years, has ac¬
cepted a position with Dr. J. A. Wright
and began his duties Monday.

Mr. E. G. Merck left Monday for
Griffin, to make his home in the fu¬
ture. Mrs. Merck and children will
leave the latter part of the week.
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. P. Sain left last
week for an extended visit to Acworth
where they will visit Mrs. Sain’s
mother, Mrs. Watson.
Dr. and Mrs. J. T. Sniner, of Jewell,
and Mr. Huie K. Nisbet, of Atlanta,
were guests of Mr. aud Mrs. Lemuel
D. King last week.
Miss Eva Loyd, teacher in the Fort
Valley public schools, spent the holi¬
days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
R. L. Loyd.
Miss Marie Averett, daugterof Capt.
and Mrs. L. C. Averett, left this week
to enter the G. N. I. college at Mil¬
ledgeville.
Mayor Marbut, of Almon, was was
Tuesday. Will is a progressive euchre
and is at the head of the procession,
and we want to see him in the legis¬

Mr. E. W. Hammond, of near Al¬
mon, killed a seven months old pig
one day last week that netted him
two hundred and fifty pounds.
Mrs. W. B. Harvey has moved to
Covington from Snapping Shoals and
will occupy the W. S. Ramsey resi¬
dence on Washington street.
Mr. Wilbur Harwell, assistant cash¬
ier of the Bank of Newton County,
spent the holidays with relatives at
Eatonton.
Mrs. L. P. Owsley, of Atlanta, spent
