POWER COMPANY CARRIES
CASE TO SUPREME COURT.
Suit Over Damages to Dempsey
Road Goes to Higher Tribunal
for Settlement.
The controversy which, arose sever¬
al months ago between the citizens
of this county and the Contrail Geor¬
gia Power Co., on account of the
overflow on the Dempsey road, two
or three miles north of the dam, will
be fought out in. the state supreme
court, according to information re¬
ceived here today.
The Central Georgia Power Co.,
was enjoined by the superior court of
Bibb county at the instance of citi¬
zens of Butts county from causing
an overflow over the road at Demp¬
sey’s Ferry, and the power company
has filed a bill of exceptions in the
office of the clerk of the superior
court of Bibb county, which carries
the case to the higher courts. Among
other things the Central Georgia
Power Co., takes exception to the
charges that the ovreflow interferes
with travel, claiming by the building
of a bridge the road is made passa¬
ble. The case promises to be a
long drawn out one and both sides
are determined to make a har ’ fight.
Shortly after the dam was com¬
pleted, it was discovered that there
was an overflow on +v, e Dempsey
road, and the citizens of that sec¬
tion of the county claimed that the
power company had agreed to build
another rood to take the place of
the one destroyed by the back water.
The outcome w-ill be watched with
a great deal of interest by the people
of this section.—Jackson Argus.

It was reported here this morning
that the work of removing the rub¬

has been in progress on the Jasper
county side of the river for several
weeks, has been abandoned on ac¬
count of the alleged intimidations of
the workmen by certain citizens re¬
siding in that vicinity. It is stated
that the lives of the workmen were
threatened if they continued the
work of removing the timbers from
the pond and as a result the forces,
under the supervision of L. L. Tyson,
immediately transferred their opera¬
