Amateur Night.
One of the finest and most enjoy¬
able j programs given by the amateurs
at the Lyric theatre was the one pre
sesnted last Friday night. The house
was filled to its utmost capcaity with
a most enthusiastic audience and each
song and recitation was given the

the prizes, but they were awarded as
follows: 1st to Misses Pauline Gaith¬
er and Helei Smith; 2nd to Master
Claiborne Cash; 3rd to Master Perry

Mary McDonald. Mrs. Edwin Taylor
gives each child individual training
and she deserves much praise for the
success of her efforts.
Chi Phi Reception.
Among the many beautiful affairs
of commencement week was the re¬
ception given by the Chi Phi frater
niyt of Emory College, at the ele¬
gant home of Mrs. P. W. Godfrey on
Conyers street last Monday night a
week ago.
The house was beautiful!/ decorat¬
ed for the occasion in the Ohi Phi
colors. Handsome ferns, sweet peas,
Iillies and lantannas were artistically
arranged in the different rooms. The
table in the dining room had for its
centor piece a mound of sweet peas,
icsting on a pretty lace cover. The
mints, cakes and bon boos were in
the Chi Phi colors. Suspended in
the center cf the den wais a large
Japanese umbrella, at the end of each
of the ribs was hung a Japanese lan¬
tern. Misses Allie Louise Travis,
Claire Dickey and Josephine Frank¬
lin, dressed in dainty Japanese cos¬
tumes, served punch from a beautiful¬
ly decorated table. Delicious creams
and cake were served.
Mrs. Godfrey received her guests
wearing an exquisite baby blue span¬
gled chiffon. Miss Isolene Camp¬
bell of Atlanta, wore a beautiful re¬
ception gown of green tissue over the
white satin, trimmed in silver. Miss
Laura Aneley, of Americus, was be¬
comingly gowned in pink chiffon.
Miss Frances Godfrey wore a green
spangled chiffon trimmed in pink
buds.

One of the most delightful events
of last week was that at which Mrs. j
VV. N. Rainey entertained the mme

can Revolution and a few outside
friends at her attractive home last
Friday afternoon.
The house was very attractive in
its decora'ions of ferns, growing
plants, yellow cancas, and sweet
peas. The main feature of the af¬
ternoon was a shadow contest, in
which Mrs. James H. Porter, of Ma¬
con drew the prize, an appropriate
picture. Souvenirs of the occasion i
were pretty and unique, being a re¬
production of the D A. R. pin, done
in blue and gold water colors and
