spent a few days with his parents,

Mr. Parks Hays, formerly of Cov¬
ington, but now of Atlanta, spent
Sunday in the city with his parents,

Miss Annie Mae Lester was among
the Covington girls attending the re¬
ception of the Phi Delta Theta’s in
Oxford last Tuesday evening.
Miss Stella Wice, one of Eaton
ton’s beautiful and most charming
young ladie?, was the guest of Mr.
and Mrs. W. Cohen last week.
Miss Mary Lewis of Atlanta is the
attractive g-iest of her sister, Miss
Susie Lewis, at the home of Mr. N.
S. Turner, on Monticello street.
Mrs. Maggie White Welch and Mrs.
George Thomas, of Athens, were
among the relatives attending the
funeral of Mr. Hugh White Friday.
Mrs. Preston Carroll and small son.
Franklin, returned to their home in
Mansfield, after spending a few
in the city with Mr. and Mrs James
H. Carroll. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll will
move to Macon soon where Mr. Car
roll has accepted a position to travel
with headquarters in Macon.
Mrs. Susan Hurst has returned
home from an -extended visit to -Mrs.
Martin Hurst, at Columbus, and is
now with her daughter, Mrs. C. J.
Norman.
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Adams enter¬
tained about, thirty relatives at din¬
ner last Sunday in honor of their
sister, Mrs. Ella Adams Leffeits, of
Leesburg, Va.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Andeson
and daughter, of Atlanta, returned
home Sunday evening, after a pleas¬
ant visit to the former’s sister, Mrs,
Ida A. Whitehead.
Mrs. R. W. Clark, Mr. and Mrs.
W. W. Childs, motored over to Jack
son last Wednesday, where -they
spent the day with Mrs. Margaret
Woodall and Mr. John R. Sams.
Mrs. W. C. Stevens, of Stevens
Pottery, has returned home after a
very pleasant visit to her sisters,
Mrs. Roberts, on Church street and
Mrs. Cole Irby, in North Covington.
Miss Grace Whitehead returned to
Milledgeville Monday evening, after
a most delightful week-end spent at
home with her mother and sister, Mrs
Ida Anderson Whitehead, and Miss
Louise Whitehead.
Mrs. William H. Hollingsworth, Mr.
Tom Philips, Mr. Mercer George and
Mr. P K. Philips, of Lithonia, came
down in the former’s machine Sun¬
day and spent the day with Mr. and
Mrs. J. E. Philips.
Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Green and
young son, Samuel, Jr., made a mo¬
tor trip to the city Sunday and were
guests of their aunt, Mrs. Charles
A. Franklin, and their mother, Mrs.
Minnie P. Wright.
Mr. and Mrs. A. McD. Wilson, Mr.
and Mrs Arthur Wilson and Miss
Louise McGhee, of Atlanta, came
down in their machine last week
and spent the week-end with Mr.
and Mrs. S. H. Adams.
Miss Essie Jordan, formerly of
Covington, but now of Atlanta, was
the attractive guest of her grand¬
parents, Mr. and xMrs F. W. Sim¬
mons, last week, en route to Mon¬
roe, where she will visit friends.
Mrs. J. B. Gatliff and young son,
J. B .Tr., of Williamsburg, Ky., who
have been spending the last month
with the former’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. H. Carroll, in North Coving¬
ton, will leave- today for their home,
after a pleasant visit.

On account of the week of prayer
next week, the meeting of the study
section of the Woman’s Club will be
held next Friday, Nov. 15th, at 3
o’clock, at the home of Mrs. L. D.

Mrs. W. W. Childs and Miss Lil¬
lian Clark will entertain the U, D.
C’s. tomorrow afternoon, Thursday,
Nov. 14th, at 3 o’clock, at the home
of Mrs. Childs. There will be an
Uncle Remus program, and a full at¬
tendance is requested.
Sewing Club.
A delightful affair of last week was
that at which Miss Gladys Lee enter
tained *he members of the Young La¬
dies Sewing Club at her home on
Monticello street, Wednesday after¬
noon, in honor of Miss Mary Lou Ar¬
nold, of Monroe, the attractive guest
of Mrs. Lester Lee.
Ferns, growing plants and numbers
of chrysanthemums were used in
charming effect in -the house, and af¬
ter spending some time in doing fan¬
cy and needle work, sandwiches and
tea were served.
Birthday Dinner.
Mrs Ida A. Whitehead entertained
a few relatives and her boarders, at
a delightful dinner last Sunday, in
honor of her daughter’s, Miss Grace
Whitehead’s, birthday.
Ferns, growing plants and fragrant
fall roses were used in pleasing ef¬
fect in the reception hall and par¬
lor, while the table in the dining
room had for its center decoration
a crystal vase of crimson salvia, rest¬
ing on a handsome lace mat, the
same bright flowers adorning the
mantel and buffet. The color scheme
of red amd green was prettily car¬
ried out. A most delicious dinner
was served.
Besides the lovely guest of honor,
who was at home for the week-end,
there were present Mr. and Mrs. C.
L. Anderson and daughter, Miss Ma¬
ry Jackson and Mr. Claud White
head, all of Atlanta. Miss Emily

Surprise Party.
Beautiful among the social events
of last week was the surprise party
at which Mrs. W. Cohen entertained
a few friends on Thursday evening at
her home, in honor of her son, Mr.
Nathan Cohen’s eighteenth birthday.
As the guests arrived they were
served punch, by little Miss Evelyn
Cohen, from a table in the hall, beau¬
tifully decoiated with flowers and
grapes_ The house was very attrac¬
tive with its decorations of hand¬
some ferns, foliage plants and num¬
erous chrysanthemums.
Delicious iefreshments were served
from the dining room, where .the cen¬
ter table had for its principal decora¬
tion a cut glass vase of white chrys¬
anthemums, resting on an oval mir¬
ror, and surrounded by eighteen pink
and green tapers. The color scheme
of pink and green was carried out
in every detail. Renaissance lace
covers over pink was used on the ta¬
ble, and suspended from the chande¬
lier to the corners of the table were
broad pink and green ribbons, fasten¬
ed by large graceful bows. Cande
labras and candlesticks holding un¬
shaded tapers were placed on cabi¬
nets and mantel, and cast a soft ra
diace over the beautiful scene. Sou¬
venirs of the occasion were bright
colored paper caps, each containing
a verse, which was read aloud. Mu¬
sic, and different games were enjoy¬
ed during the evening. A salad and
hot coffee course was served.

Driver, Julia Aiken, Lucy Bush, Flor¬
ence Wells, Mary Lou Arnold, of Mon
roe, Stella Wice, of Eatonton, and
Messrs. Tom Adams, Herman Cook,
Fred Barnes, Louis Zeitlin, Nathan
Cohen, Mr. and Mrs. W. Cohen.

Rev. Sams filled his regular ap¬
pointment at Mt. Tabor Sunday after¬
noon. We v.ere glad to see so many
present.
Missse Fannie Mae Burnette and

spent a short while with Mrs. H. C.
Hyatt Sunday afternoon.
The many friends of Mr. Robert
Gattis, formerly of this place, but
recently of Atlanta, were grieved to
learn of his death last Wednesday.
He was buried Thursday morning at
Dover. T’ e funeral services were
conducted by Rev. J. B. Gresham, of
Redan.
Our s ool is progressing very nice¬
ly. There will be a basket supper
given at the school house Thursday
night, November 21st. The proceeds
to go toward; painting and repairing
the school building. Everybody is
cordially invited to be present.

home, where Mr. Lummus is pastor
