FA IR VI E W NEWS.
On the ninth of April our school
aud community was saddened by the
sudden death of Lillie Kate Mc¬
Cullough, tire beautiful little daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Lee McCullough.
She was one of the sweetest and
brightest pupils whom I have ever
taught. She had an attack of whoop¬
ing cough and probably contra* 1 .ted
pneumonia, which caused her instant
death. We extend our sympathy to
the grief-stricken parents, and rela¬
tives. BROWNIE ELLINGTON
Fairview school closed Friday, Ap¬
ril 18th. On account of mumps and
whooping cough the average attend¬
ance could not be mode. We are very
scrry to be compelled to close, as
the school term continues one month
longer. This will prevent our tak¬
ing part in the county school fair,
although we had begun work for our
display. To attempt to would carry out work the j
supervision of teachers, a
disadvantage to the children. Our
school, however, willl be represented j
in the oratorical contest by Mattie
Lou Owens.

Cannon Balls of Stone and Iron.
Stone bullets were used until the
year 1514 when they were supplanted
by iron. It was near the close of the
sixteenth century before leaden bul¬
lets were generally adopted. Stone
cannon balls are yet used in some of
the eastern countries.
Spanish City’s Vehicle Tax.
Valencia, Spain, farms out its ve¬
hicle tax for a fixed sum per annum
to a concessionary, who is allowed to
collect under the terms of his contract
a sum amounting to about $34.50 for
each automobile, plus about $4.06 ex¬
tra for each seat the car contains.
Practically all the machines are kept
for only city and park driving.
Snail Millions of Years Old.
A petrified 'prehistoric snail embed¬
ded in the heart of a large piece of
blue lias stoue, was discovered a few
days ago by quarrymen working at
Cheddar Cliffs, Wales, upon some
large boulders of stone which were
displaced in the landslide which oc¬
curred some years ago. The discov¬
ery is distinctly interesting to the
geologists on account of the great age
of the find, as, situated upon a very
low strata, it must be millions ol
years since the snail lived.

To Our Good Friends and Patrons:
The fact that we are among the very oldest manufacturers of
commercial fertilizers in the South and stand at the top of the
list, means that experience, that dear teacher, has taught us
how to mix fertilizers to enrich your soil.
FURMAN on the outside of the bag means HONESTY and
FULL WEIGHT on the inside. We make different brands, but
only one kind—the BEST.
When you fertilize with FURMAN goods you know every
pound of plant food shown on the analysis is in the fertilizer
and ready to make your crops grow. They push the plant from
start to finish.
FURMAN HIGH-GRADE FERTILIZERS guarantee the
growth of big crops.
The cheapest fertilizers are the most expensive in the end,
for the cost of the fertilizers is insignificant compared with the
loss of a crop.
FURMAN FERTILIZERS are worth a little more in the
warehouse, but a great deal more in the field. A really high
grade fertilizer is a good, common-sense investment, but a cheap
fertilizer is an expense.
When you are ready for your fertilizers call on our agents.
If your nearest fertilizer agent doesn’t handle our goods, take
it up with us direct.
