Augusta has begun a small w-or on
the "loan sharks." This is another

Isn’t the contrast great between
Governor Slaton going around amount

Why should the state tax the col¬

are performing a service for the
state which can not. be measured in

alumni will meet with success in the
next legislature.
We congratulate Edward J. Wel

on 4,837 square yards of land, and
thereby winning several valuable
prizes at *he Georgia-Carolina Fair
in Augusta. His yield is a record for
1913.
Have you noticed the steady silence
which “Little Joe" Brown has main¬

seldom that a public man has kept

we might think that “Little Joe”
does not intend to keep quiet for
tie rest of time.

i|| THE COVINGTON NEWS WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 1913.
WHY SHOP EARLY,
Each year several weeks before
Christmas, in fact months, the news¬
papers of the United States urge the
public to ©hop early. There are
plenty of reasons, and it Is not idle
comment from the standpoint of the
p-’ese.
In the first place, the buying pub¬
lic gains by buying their Christmas
goods early. They have the choice,
and everyone knows the advantage in
having the pick of anything.
The Christmas merchandise is new-,
and by buying early you get the good
■> hile they are new. Accumulations
of dirt have not been made upon the
goods when you buy early.
And perhaps the greatest of all
teasons, you greatly assist the busi¬
ness' men. and their clerks. The
clerks stands on his feet all day- the
year around, and why should you
cause him double work by delaying
your Christmas purchases.
The woman who stands behind the
counter is not physically able to en¬
dure t 1 e strain of several days
work to satisfy the rush of an exact¬
ing and hurrying public.
Already Christmas goods are on
display in the various stores, so shop
new while ©hopping is easy.
