Why not do our Christmas shopp¬
ing before the last day?
Why sure there is a Santa Claus.
Who woul be so foolish as to doubt?
The Monticello News has come out
in a new face, which is very attrac
t've.
The newspapers say the “world
needs cash.” Whatj about the county
editor.
You cannot display your charity to
a greater advantage than at Christ¬
mas time.
We were six years old last week,
and we think we will start to school
be foie long.
The pertinent qeuetlon continues—
shall we bust the trust? or shall the
trust bust us?
The News has received an apprecia
*ed Christmas present. Our capacity
is being doubled.
Bishop Candler has handed an un¬
der cut to the preacher baseball
fens. Suc^ is life.
The billion dollar congress is now
in full sway. A few more years will
bring a trillion dollar burden.
Did you know that the first corn
club was organized in Newton coun¬
ty in 1904. And we have been settinj
♦’-e pace ever since.
The Mexican pr'm.em, the curency
question, woman’s suffrage, another
term—all these come under President
Wilson’s realm of pleasure.
The Dodge County Herald, East¬
man, announces that its first issue
will come out this week. We await
'ts appearance with interest.
The political dopesters say that
the 114 political season depends on
the course of Governor Slaton. That

Senate?
It was indeed appropriate that Con¬
gressman Frank Park, the successor
to the late Col. Roddenberry, should
nominate the dead congressman’s
wife for postmistress of Thomasvilie.
Georgia newspapers sympathize
with the Savannah Press in the loss

above ' e ashes with a greater paper.
The Fort Valley Herald-Tribune
has announced the acquisition of
the services of Mr. Emmet Houser

Judge John Hart, the tax commis¬
sioner, under Georgia’s new tax law,
is receviing much encouragement in
his work by his visits over the state.
It was a startling statement when
Judge Hart said that only one-seventl

for taxation. We trust that his ef¬
forts along the lines which he has be
gun will prove successful.
We re print the following par ag rapt
vshich contains a whole lot of truth.
“When you hear a man sneering at
the local paper because it is not big,
cneap and newsy as the city papers, ;
jou can safely bet he does not squan¬
der any of his wealth in assisting to
make it better, and that generally the
paper has done more for him than
•3e has done for it. The man who can
tot see the beenefits arising from a
local newspaper is about as much
value to a town as a delinquent tax
list.” This comes from the Houston
Post.
A good time to pay that Dollar!
