Mr. C. E. .Sjieer. of Atlanta, who has
been the guest of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. T. J. Speer, in Newborn, was the
guest of L. D. Adams Sunday.
Miss Olga Rhebergh returned from

day, to spend the holidays with her

Air. and Airs. R. E. Huson, of At¬
lanta, are spending the holidays with
Air. and Airs. It. \Y. Huson in North
Covington.
Aliss Etta AIcRee, of Decatur, was
the week-end guest of friends in the
city.
Air. and Airs. R. W. Huson and
Misses Brownie and Winuifred Huson
will spend several days this week in
Atlanta, where they go to attend the
Armistead-Erwin wedding, which will
be a pretty event of the 23d, taking
place at the home of the bride on
West Peachtree. Aliss Armistead has
many friends in Covington who will
he interested to learn of her wedding,
having often visited her aunt, Airs.

who are attending the Aledical College
in Atlanta, arc spending several days
with home folks.
Miss Sue Taylor, who has been on
an extended visit to relatives in
North Georgia, returned Friday.
The many friends of Airs. It. \V.
Clarke will be glad to learn that she
is improving, after her recent illness.
Messrs. Guy and Reginald Robin¬
son are at home from the G. AI. C. at
Milledgeville for the Christmas holi¬
days.

Corinne St. John returned Tuesday
from the G. N. I. C for a two weeks'
visit to their parents.
Mr. and Mrs E. J. Hurst, Mrs. W. B.
Owen and Airs. AY. AV. Childs made an
automobile trip to Atlanta Wednes¬
day, Air. and Mrs. Hurst remaining
over till Friday as the guests of rel¬
atives.
Aliss Clyde AVillis has returned to
her home in Greensboro for a visit of
several weeks to her parents.
Aliss Florence Owen, of North Car¬
olina. is spending some time with her
brother, Prof. AY, B. Owen.
Air. and Mrs. E. J. Hurst leave to¬
day to spend the holidays with rela¬
tives in Atlanta.
Airs. C. C. King and little daughter
leave Wednesday to speiu\ several

Cox College Friday to spend the holi¬

Aliss Reynolds, of Snapping Shoals,
is the guest of Aliss Annie Bearden in

ical College, is spending the holidays
with his parents in North Covington.
Air. Jno. Rush Lester is expected
home this week to sjiend the holidays
with Air. and Airs. R. P. Lester, in
North Covington.
Alisses Reba and A'irginia Hudson,
of Monroe, are expected this week to
be the guests of Aliss Reba Berry in
North Covington during the holidays.

Airs. Pauline Jarman has returned
home afetr an extended visit to Cum¬

Airs. A. 8. Adams is the guest of
relatives at Lyons, Ga., having gone
there last week. She will be joined

Adams, of the Covington News, and
they will spend the holidays there.
Study Circle of Woman’s Ciub
Tuesday afternoon Mrs. r A i v . .(. liar
well entertained the Study Circle of
the Woman's Club at her pretty home
on Floyd street The rooms open to
the guests were beautifully decorated,
the decorations all suggestive of the
holiday season “Aluch Ado About
Nothin < r ” was the subject for discus¬
sion. Dainty refreshments were serv¬
ed after the business session.

A pleasant affair of the past week
was that in which the members of the
United Daughters of the Confederacy
were entertained on Thursday after¬
noon at their December meeting at
the borne of Airs. II .1). Terrell, Airs.
Terrell, Airs. Bain Terrell, Airs. W.
W. Childs, Airs. W. N. Rainey, Airs.
X. S. Turner, Airs. J, G. Logan and
Airs. Jack Swann being the hostesses
of the occasion. Several interesting
papers were read. The meeting was a
social one. A delicious salad course
and hot coffee were served.
CHRISTMAS CAROLS IN
NORTH COVINGTON
The young people of North Coving¬
ton will celebrate the coming of Chris¬
tinas by singing Christmas carols at
the different homes in North Coving¬
ton at half past nine on Christmas
Eve. The songs will he religious on
the birthday of Christ.

elder, will preach at the Alethodist

CHRISTMAS TREE AT
THE COVINGTON MILLS
The teachers of the Covington Mills
school gave a Christinas tree at the
Covington Alill school last Friday af¬
ternoon, which was enjoyed to tfie
fullest extent by the pupils.
The teachers are Aliss .Tide A lie
principal, and Aliss .Maggie Perry and
Carrie Black. Appropriate exon-iso
were arranged at this occasion.

DECLARES 8 PER CENT.
Met Monday and Declared
an Annual Dividend of Eight
Per Cent.
The‘directors of the Bank of Coving¬
ton met Monay and declared a divi¬
dend of eight per cent.
'i’lie catrial of the Bank of Coving¬
ton is one hundred thousand dollars,
which means that .$8,000 will he paid
in dividends by this bank on January
the lest.
The larger part of tlie stock of this
hank is held by local people and the
dividend checks for the eight per cent
will no doubt come in nicely on the
above date.
The directors of the other two Cov¬
ington hanks have not met as yet.
MR. II. W. BARNETT DIED
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 15TH.
Air. W. H.Barnett, one of the oldest
and best known citizens, died at his
home in North Covngton last Thurs¬
day after an extended llness. Air.
Barnett was 73 years old and leaves
a wife and seven living children.
'1 he funeral took place at the home
Friday morning, .Rev. H. W. Williams
officiating, and he was buried in the
Westview cemetery here.
The famly has the sympathy of the
community intheir hour of grief.

To the Superior Court of Said
County:
The petition of the Georgia-Cuba
Land Company respectfully shows the
following facts, to-wit:
It. That it, Georgia-Cuba Land
Company, is a corporation heretofore
November 1ft. 1908, created and or¬
ganized under a charter granted by
the Superior Court of said county and
state.
• > That the said Georgia-Cuba
Land Company desires to surrender
its said charter and franchises, as a
corporation, and be dissolved by the
order and decree of the said Superior
Court of Newton county, Georgia.
O. Georgia-Cuba Laud Company
further shows to the court that a
meeting of the stockholders of sucli
corporation, duly called for the pur¬
pose, a resolution lias been adopted by
the affirmative vote of the owners of
two-thirds of the capital stock of such
corporation, resolving that the corpor¬
ation shall surrender its charter and
franchise to the state, and be dis¬
solved as a corporation.
4. Georgia-Cuba Land Company
further shows to the court that such
dissolution may bo allowed without in¬
justice to any stockholder, or to any
person having claims or demands of
any character against said corpora¬
tion.
Wherefore Georgia-Cuba Land Com¬
pany presents this its petition to the
jfidgo of said court and prays that he
shall grant an order thereon,fixing the
time for the hearing of this petition at
the court house in said county of New¬
ton. either at a regular term or in va¬
cation, not less than four weeks from
the date of such order and further di¬
rects that such petition he filed in the
office of the clerk of said court, and
that a copy of such petition and or¬
der be published once a week for four
weeks in the newspaper wherein
sheriffs’ sales in and for the county
are published, the expense of which
publication shall be defrayed by the
Georgia-Cuba Land Company.
