Write it 1915.
Have you broken your New Year’s
resolutions.
When court began Monday morning
there were eighteen in the county jail,
and a number out on bond. Court will
likely last until Friday anyway.
The grand jury seems to lie having
a busy week. It is composed of some
of the best citizens of the county and
they are iloim' some good work, we
understand.
On account of an oversight in the
drafting of the constitutional amend¬
ment Evans county will not have a
representative. Little hard on this
new county.
The new county and city officials
have taken their oaths of office and are
“on the job.” There is no change in
the county officers with the exception
of Mr. I. W. Meador being the one
commissioner.
It occurs to us that “War and
Hard Times” is not considered as a
sufficient reason to stay single. We
saw about a dozen marriage write-ups
in a sister paper last week. Possibly
they will learn to economize.
E. A. Harper, editor of the Conyers
Times, died last week at his home in
Conyers. Mr. Harper was one of the
best editors of a weekly in Georgia,
and had the reputation of having the
smallest number of. if any, enemies.
He will be missed.
That we have entirely recovered
from big turkey dinners, etc., is evi¬
dent by tin 1 fact that we turned out
two large booklet jobs last week. We
are still doing the best printing that
can be done and will turn out your
work on short notice.
The Stone Mountain circuit is for¬
tunate in having two men like Judge
Reid and Solicitor General Napier
to handle their court proceedings.
They are both capable and efficient
gentlemen and have the confidence of
the iH'ople of the circuit.
Several of the Georgia weeklies ad¬
vanced their subscription price to $1.50
beginning January the first. This is
something that will have to come to
all of us sooner or later, and the
quicker the better for the most of
them.
Former Governor Joseph M. Brown
has written a card on the Frank case,
upholding the courts of the state in
convicting the condemned man. The
reply of Frank in the Sunday papers
says the former governor is seeking
votes at the expense of nis Frank’s
life.
John C. Reese. Atlanta representa¬
tive of the Macon Telegraph, tlie Au¬
gusta Chronicle, the Valadosta Times
and the Albany Herald, died in At¬
lanta Friday morning of pneumonia.
Mr. Reese was one of the best known
young newspaper men of the state and
will be missed by his string of papers
as well as the other papers of the
state.
Fulton county had a record number
divorces in 1914. It is too easy to
: married and too easy to get tlie
it untied in Georgia. This state
far behind the larger number of
tes in the union that have laws
minting marriage as well as di¬
ce. Some of Georgia’s newly elect
representatives can make a name
ng these lines.
S'ewton county has forty-nine men
the roads of her county. If this
tnber is kept through the year,
nv miles of modern highway should
built. And sjieakiug of highways,
one between town and the Geor
railroad is “some” road. We be
e that the city would do well to
crushed rock on this road and a
of it, for it is traveled iwssibly
