An enjoyable event of Wednesday
evening at Mansfield was the Rook
party, at which Miss Dollie Beam en¬
tertained a few of her friends. After
several interesting games a delicious
hot chocolate, sandwiches aud fresh
parched peanuts were served. The

Mr. and Mrs. E. L Loyd of Virginia
whose wedding was a pretty event of
January, are spending several days as
the guests of Capt. and Mrs. Smith.
Mrs. W. Cohen and Miss Evelyn
Cohen returned home Saturday from
Baltimore, where they went to attend
the Cohen-Rosenbloom wedding, which
was an event of the 28tli.
Mrs. 8. H. Adams leaves Tuesday/or
Atlanta, where she will represent the
Covington chapter of the I). A. K/g at
tiie state convention. While there Mrs.
Adams will be the guest of Mrs. A.
Alii). Wilson.
Miss Clara Belle Adams returned
last week from a pleasant visit to
Newborn, where she was the guest of
her grandpa rents, Hon. and Mrs. T.
J. Speer.
Miss Ida Winship of Atlanta is the
attractive guest this week of Miss
Frances Godfrey.
Miss Gene Austin is the guest of
.Miss Annie Mae Lester at her home in
North Covington.
Miss Frances Godfrey has returned
borne after being delightfully enter¬
tained as the guest of her aunt, Mrs.
W. T. Elder, in Atlanta for the past
two weeks.
Mr. Emmett Rogers of Atlanta spent
Sunday with his parents, Mr and
Mrs. Butler Rogers.
Miss Essie Jordan, who has been the
guest of Mrs. F. W. Simmons for sev¬
eral weeks, returned to her home in
Atlanta Thursday.
Mr. Dan Upshaw, who is attending
the University of Georgia, si>ent the
week-end with Mr. and Mrs. J. C.
Upshaw
Mrs. W. B. Owen and children, who
have spent the past montf in Char¬
lotte with Mrs. Owen’s mother, re¬
turned home Saturday after a pleas¬
ant visit.

tle son, Stanford, of Hayston, were
guests of relatives in Covington and
Oxford Sunday.
Air. H. Q. Davis, of Stevens Pottery,

lightfully entertained as the guest of

Cooper leave this week for an extend¬
ed trip through Florida and Cuba.

HARWELL-WOOD
A wedding which came as a surprise
to the many friends of the popular
young couple, was that of Miss Alamie
Wood of Logansville to Air. .T. Wilbur
Harwell, of this city, which took place
Sunday afternoon at the home of the
bride’s sister, Airs Frank Charlton,
in Alacon, where the bride was on a
visit. Air. and .Mi's. Harwell arrived
Sunday night and will be at home to
their friends at the home of Air. and
.Mrs. O .A Harwell.
SPEND-THEDA Y PARTY

One of the most delightful affairs of
the past week was the spend-the-day
party at which Airs. Evans Lunsford
entertained on Saturday at her home
for the Book Lovers’ Club. The day
was spent in fancy work, and at noon
the guests were invited into the dining
room, where an elegant six course din¬
ner was served. A unique feature of
the dinner was the many delicious
ways in which the Georgia raised beef
was prepared. The place cards were
pictures of Air. Lunsford’s famous
Hereford cattle. The table had for
a centerpiece a beautiful arrangement
of asparagus fern and white hyacinths.
At the close of the dinner toasts were
made to this ideal hostess by Airs. S.
II. Adams, Airs. C. A SocKwell and
Airs. J. A. Wright.
Mrs. James E. Phillips and Airs.
Wilson, of Newborn, were the invited
guests. The members of the club,
which is a new organization, are Mrs.
FT. IT. Anderson, Mrs. J. A. Wright,
Mrs, S. H. Adams. Mrs. C. A. Sockwell,

After the business meeting dainty
refreshments were served by Misses
Allie Louise Travis, Alary Sockwell
and Fnnnibell Adams.

The ceremony was performed by the
Rev. S. Schaeffer and it was witnessed
by about 250 guests. Aliss Gussie Ber¬
man, of Elberton. Ga.. was maid of
honor, and Harry L. Cohen, of AUulison
Ga., was best man. The bridesmaids
were Alisses Gertrude Copeland. Ethel
Roseubloom, Rose Rappeport. Alinnie
Cohen. Alamie Colien. Jennie Jaffee,
Hattie Baker and Sara Merowitz. The
ushers were I Rosenhloom, Daniel El¬
lison. I. Benjamin, Benjamin Baker.
Sol Harris. Abe Jaffe, Nathan Silber
stein and Sidney Lipsitz.
The bride wore a dress of duchess
satin trimmed with pearls, and with
a court train and a veil of of tulle,
with orange blossoms. She wore a dia¬
mond pendant, the gift of the groom,
and carried lilies of the valley.
Air. and Airs Cohen left for a trip
through Florida, and on their return
will make their home with the groom's

NEXT MONDAY EVENING.
The Mercer University Glee Club
will give a concert here Tuesday night
Feb. 9th, under the auspices of Prof.
AV. B. Owen, Jr., and the Covington
school.
This club is out on its eighth annual
tour and is able to give an entertain¬
ment equal to any that is given by
any glee club in the South. Esjiee
ially is it prepared to give a good con¬
cert at the present time, because the
hoys' have just returned from a two
weeks’ tour of Florida, where they
gave eleven concerts, sang to seven
or eight thousand people, and took
tilings by storm everywhere they ap¬
peared. The program is high class,
with enough college fun mixed in to
make it go lively.
