past week was that at which Miss

was carried out in all of the details.
Punch was served from one end of the
veranda from a table prettily decorat¬
ed with red cannas and white roses,
and presided over by Miss Allie Louise
Travis and Miss Marian Willis, al a
late hour cream and cake was served.

were enjoyed by all present.

The members off the Bookiover’s
Club were delightfully entertained on
Friday afternoon by Mrs. H. W. Wil¬
liams. Punch was served upon the ar¬
rival of the guests. A reading by Mrs.
C. A. Sockwell was a feature of me
afternoon. A salad course and iced
tea was served. Mrs. William’s guests

The Oxford District Conference will
convene at Mansfield, June 24-26. Bish¬
op Collins Denny is expected to pre¬
side in the absence of Rev. B. F. Fra¬
ser. the Presiding Elder of the district
will be in charge.
The pastors and delegates from the
twenty-three pastoral charges, repre¬
senting seventy-eight churches will
compose the conference, whose busi¬
ness will be a review of the work of
the evangelism, education, missions,
Sunday Schools, leagues, financial mat¬
ters. etc., and will elect four lay dele¬
gates to the annual conference.
Rev. Plato Durham, D. D., of Emory
Cniversity will preach the introduc¬
tory sermon. Thursday the 24th at 11
o’clock, a. m.
Emory College, the great church
school of Georgia Methodism will
in for a share in the deliberations.
Salem Camp Ground is in this dis¬
trict and the preachers for the
meeting will be appointed at
conference.
Every pastor and delegate is expect¬
ed to report for roll call on Thursday
morning June the 24th.

REFUSES JUDGESHIP
A high and deserved compliment was
paid to the sterling worth of Col. Geo.
M. Napie r and his pre-eminent fitness
for the judgeship of the Stone Moun¬
tain Circuit, when Governor Slaton
voluntarily tendered him that high po¬
sition immediately upon taking up the
matter of filling the vacancy caused by
Judge Reid’s death.
Very early in the morning after
Judge Reid’s funeral Governo r Slaton
called up Colonel Napier and asked
him to come to the Governor’s office,
and when Colonel Napier arrived the
Governor tendered him the judgeship.
Colonel Napier thanked the Governor
for the compliment implied by the
tender, but told the Governor that he
felt that he could serve the people of
the circuit to bette r advantage in the
office of Solicitor-general than in the
judgeship, and because of the wider
field of activity in his present position
he must decline the judgeship.
Colonel Napier’s neighbors and fel¬
low citizens in Decatur and DeKa
county who know his character as a
man ami his ability as a wyer deep
ly appreciate the high compliment paid
him by Governor Slaton’s tender of
