Rev. Hr. G. W. Eichelberger, super
indent of the Georgia League has
received the following communication
from national executive committee:
•■The skirmish period of anti-saloon
warfare is over—the real conflict is
on. This nation is moving rapidly to¬
ward the absolute prohibition of the
manufacture and sale of intoxicants
Already eighteen of the forty-eight
states in the union have adopted pro¬
hibition, while the legislatures of four
others have submitted the question to
a vote of the people. In all proba¬
bility 2-1 states will he under state
wide prohibition before the presiden¬
tial election of 1916.
•AVe cull on every minister of the
gospel, every laymen in the ehurch,
every woman who believes in national
sobriety and every person whose moral
sense is touched with the appeal for
a redeemed citizenship to lend a hand
in making the coming convention the
heginning of the end of the arrogant
domination of on,, industrial and poli¬
tical life by the Moloch of human
greed which, for want of a more suit¬
able name, we call the liquor traffic.
"This call is extended to every in¬
dividual, whether officially represent¬
ing his own sentiments and devotion
to the cause of righteousness, to lie
present at this gathering of the clans,
to take council and to catch a new in¬
spiration for the titanic struggle just
ahead.”

Mr. 8. R. Ellington, an old veteran
and one of the most prominent plan
ties in Newton county, returned last
week from a delightful trip to Rich¬
mond, Va.. Washington, D. C. and
other points of interest.
Mr. Ellington states that he had al¬
ways had a desire to visit Richmond,
bee, r uis,. in April, fifty years ago he
marched through this place, and had
a curiosity to see how much it had
changed.
After attending the Reunion. Mr. El.
lington and a number of others de¬
cided to visit the United States Capi¬
tal- While there Mr, Enillgton met
several old friends and talked to our
spnio r Senator, Hoke Smith, in his
office. This was his* first trip to Wash,
ington.

MISSIONARY GLEANINGS.
We have a cheering example of the
influence of religion on the heatbern
heart, and that would be well for the
church if some of the contractors in
ou r home and would follow, that
comes to u s from Sooehou, China. We
are building a church there that is
being finished rapidly. “Everybody
that sees it admires it and marvels
at the price—so much church for so
little money. It is not due to the
building committee or to those who
are furnishing the money, or to the
English architect, but to th e Chinese
contractor. He built Anderson Hall
fo v us. and before It was finished he
was converted. Tins church is largely
his thank-offering, for he undertook
the contract determined not to not
only make a cent out of it, but even
to contribute all he could in addition.
