WITHIN THE EMORY CHAPEL.

Tis sweet when day draws on the veil of dusk,
And silence broods o’er all the patient earth,
Like something stirless, as in somber death,
To find myself in this secluded spot
Alone with God. These quaint old walls ot clay
Will pass away; yea soon, and quite too soon;
Rut this will ever be a sacred spot.
It is so still I hear my own heart beat,
A hich warns me of the quickly coming end
A hen it shall beat no more. My breathing flesh
Reminds me of itself, and thus I know
l am not soul alone, nor mind, but bear
n I he flesh, and must have corresponding thoughts.
And too, 'tis sweet to touch the organ ke.vs,
,« i So faded and by years ol use,
I now, worn
And thus pour the adoration forth
Of my pent heart in choicest melody.
■ he sun has set. The purple hills grow dim.
A hush is felt. All nature peaceful lies,
And through the windows and open doors,
Along the shaded aisles, the zephyrs from pass,
I he balmy breezes, fresh and sweet on.
Young meadowlands, play through my hair, and skim
Across my upturned face- They breathe to me
! h oQean isles and fancied planes afar,
A here lovers live forever free to love,
And feel the thrill of wildest youthful dreams.

To the thinking taxpayers among

after such a fashion? Think of the
contradiction, and beware lest you
bring disaster in the long run. You
cannot afford to temporize in dealing
with a deadly enemy.
Arise, meet the enemy of strong
drink in whatever manner he may
meet or in whatever guise he may be
clothed, ye tax-payers and citizens,
