RAILROADS WANT
BIO RATE INCREASE
RAILROADS OF STATE ASK 31%
INCREASE IN RATES
ON FREIGHT
Condensed Statement of Interesting
Events and Happenings
Throughout State.
Atlanta.—A flat rate of 31 per cent
la the freight rates of Georgia is ask¬
ed by the railroads operating in the
state in a petition filed with ths rail¬
road commission.
Similar petitions were filed simulta¬
neously with the state commissions
cf ail the states in the Southern clas¬
sification territory and a similar pe¬
tition was filed some days ago with
the interstate commerce commission.
The state petitions apply to intra¬
state rates in the several states, while
the interstate commerce commission
petition applies to interstate rates.
Ah are based upon the claim that
the railroads must have an increase
approximating 31 per cent to earn the
minimum of 5 1/2 per cent which they
are guaranteed by the transportation
-xet of congress returning them to pri¬
vate operation.
The filing of the petition before the
Georgia commission was not a sur¬
prise, as the nation was put on notice
by the filing of the interstate com¬
merce commission petition that the
the figures, to have in round numbers
railroads were obliged, according to
a billion dollars additional yearly rev¬
enue to get along.
Inasmuch as the transportation act
guarantees them a minimum of 5 1/2
percent vidas that and inasmuch state rates as the shall * ctpl make T!
no
a discrimination against interstate
rates, the final authority rests in the
Infcertsiate commerce commission, and
the authority of state commissions is
hardly more than nominal. Hence the
Georgia commission will await the ac¬
tion of the intertatate commerce com¬
mission.
To get a general method of co-op¬
eration between the state commissions j
and the interstate commerce coinrais- j
jion, the state commissioners are meet- j
ing in Washington to appoint a com- j
mittee of three or five to sit with the :
interstate commerce commission In
,, the hearing . of , the case. ____ John -r I. nm Boi
feuillet was sent to the conference to
represent the Georgia commission.

Why a Majority of the Smaller Cars
Come on Goodyear Tires

Last year more cars using 30x3-, 30x3V2-,
or 31 x 4dnch tires were factory - equipped
with Goodyear Tires than with any other
kind.
This is plainly a result of the high relative
value produced in these tires for the smaller
cars by Goodyear’s enormous resources and
scrupulous care.
They represent the same intense endeavor
to supply utmost satisfaction in tires that
has laid the basis for the marked preference
which exists everywhere for Goodyear Tires
in the larger sizes.
This real Goodyear value in tires is available
for your Ford, Chevrolet, Dort, Maxwell, or
other car using one of these sizes, at our
nearest Service Station. Go there for these
tires and Goodyear Heavy Tourist Tubes.
