CHILDREN'S WEEK. I Sn«u.ge ta it may eouivi, CafllLi ek a Week”, is not primarily for children. That is, it is not a week when children are rallied and paraded, and made to perform for the entertainment of ad¬ miring adults. On the other hand, the primary objective of “Children's Week” is to reach adults, especially parents, and create in their minds a feeling of responsibility spiritual development regarding the of moral children. and | Therefore, while the ultimate purpose of "Children’s Week" is the good of the child, its direct aim is the home. For the past d.-<**ie and especial¬ ly since the World War, there have been forces at work undermining the stability of the American home. Par¬ ents are not concerning themselves a bout their main task—the training of their children. The evidences of this are too numerous and heart breaking The watchmen of the church see this evil descending upon the most vital point in our civilization and are cry¬ ing aloud in order that the people may be warned. It should be noted that we named the church. It is true that the Element ary Department of the General Sunday School Board is promoting this move¬ ment, and the details of the campaign arc being worked out by it and the Elemental y Departments of the var¬ ious conferences, hut it is not Elem¬ entary propaganda. It is a move¬ ment of the whole church. As such it has the endorsement of our leading Bishops and presiding elders, and the support of the majority of our preach¬ ers and Sunday School superintend¬ ents. In fact, every preacher and Sunday School superintendent that be¬ comes informed of the principles and scope of “Children’s Week” is enthus¬ iastic. Even in these times of finan rial depression, a number of Confer¬ ence Sunday School Boards have made special "Children’s Week appropriations Every effort is being made to avoid the errors of observing “Children’s Week” in a manner that exploits child¬ ren, or makes it degenerate into an inspirational campaign of the rally day type. To this end. the work of the week is carefully outlined under the following heads: 1 Parent’s meeting in local church. 2 Home visitation of children by all elementary teachers. 3 The follow-up or forward steps. The central feature of the entire week's observance is the parent's meet¬ ing. The topics. to he presented at that meeting this year are: "The childs physical environment in the church.” “The place of play in the life of the child.” "The Sunday in the home.”. There is an article in the Wesleyan ■ In-btl.-.a Vdvocate of the March 10th. ■ i:. i!i-i-. 1 would be glad that every ■ aii-ntary teacher would read about th. < s •: vanoe of “Children's Week, \ pi-: i 23-20.
