AA1ERICAN LEGION
RE-ORGANIZES HERE
on Wednesday night in the court
house, the Newton County Post Num¬
ber 32 of the American Legion was
thoroughly and completely revived and
put on its feet again as an active post
(if the Legion.
The Atlanta Post Number 1, which
has a membership of around twelve
hundred, sent four of its best organiz¬
ers to do the work—Ex-Commander
Fonville McWhorter, Messrs. Gamble,
Nicholson and Parker, all of Atlanta.
Following their heart to heart talks
with a group of former service men,
fifteen members were signed up and
many more were guaranteed to put the
post here on its feet and its hat in the
ring.
It was stressed that the primary ob¬
ject of the American Legion here as
everywhere is the mutual help to and
fellowship among the former buddies of
the army and navy. The American Le¬
gion is positvely forbidden to indulge
in partisan politics, and confines its ac
tivities to construction work among
the men in its ranks and for those who
suffered and died overseas or at home
while in service.
it is expected that during the coming
week the roll of the Newton County
Post will be swelled by the re-enroll
ment of all of the former active mem¬
bers of the Post here, and that every
former soldier or sailor in the county
will join the post. The former officers of
the Post are now temporarily handling
the work, and any ex-service man who
wants to line up with the Post here
may see W. R. Stillwell or T. C.
Meadors for information.
A called meeting will be held in the
ordinary's office at the court house on
the night of Tuesday', the 15th of May,
at eight thirty o’clock. Jt is expected
that a large number will attend both
from the town and county, as the of¬
ficers of the Post for the coming yea)
will be elected at this meeting. All for¬
mer members of the Newton County
Post are urged to be on hand and to
talk to any ex-service men who did not
formerly belong to the Post here, and
cordially invite them to line up with
the Legion, so that the activities of the
Post may go forward at once with a
full an enrollment as possible. There
is no further initiation ceremony in the
Legion, any man who has passed
through the ordeals of walking guard,
kitchen police and pack carrying being
reckoned as amply prepared for all
tlier advancement in the order.

CHEVROLET CAR MAKES ECONOMICAL RECORD
ON 1,549 MILE TRIP^
P. J. ROGERS Chevrolet Dealer,
Covington, Ga. / 9
Dear Sir:— ' LSLJL
We are glad to make the following statement concerning our trip from Covington, Ga.,To various points in
Florida and returning:
The first day of our trip we-made 199 miles, and were not racing with time, in fact, we averaged about 20
miles per hour, and later as the sights became more interesting we only made from 40 to 70 mi 1 per day.
Sometimes bad roads made it necessary to go slow, and on the other hand we were on a sight seeing trip and
not in an indurance race.
There were many bad places in the road, and on several occasions cars were noticed stalled. Not one time
did we stick, but what the little car pulled out under its own power. It took 69 gallons of gasoline and 5 quarts
of oil, and for cup grease and a mechanic to put same in place cost about $1.50. This was all the expense at¬
tached to the car on the entire trip.
The Chevrolet for power, economy and safety qualified above our expectations, and we can recommend
this car, and if cared for as any auto should be, no one need have doubt as to it giving the service desired on
a trip such as we have just made.
v • DR. LUKE ROBINSON,
W. E. LIGHTFOOT.
Have you ever thought of how much your Gasoline, Oil and Repairs cost
you in proportion to the price of your car ?
Think this over and then let us explain to you that a
CHEVROLET
Is truly a car for Economical Transportation. We have one for you.
