Piedmont Christmas Program
Proved to be Colorful Trip
Issuing in the Christmas season,
the elementary grades of Piedmont
Academy treated parents and
friends to a colorful trip around the
world Dec. 4.
After being welcomed to
Christmas Airport, guests buckled
up to jet to various Christmas
celebrations in eight countries.
Pajama-clad of “When Santa Claus
Comes” as everyone slipped into
the Christmas mood.
Reminding everyone of our
historical heritage, the first grade
charmed the audience with their
spirited renditions of Colonial
America's favorites, "The Night
Georgia's Christmas Seal
Georgia Gov. Busbee presented James King, Georgia's Christmas
Youth Ambassador, a plaque of appreciation for having designed
Georgia's Christmas Seal. The campaign lasts until the end of
December and aids in the fight to prevent and control ani
physema, bronchitis and asthma.

Band."
The second-graders crossed the
ocean to transform into Dutch boys
and girls trying to persuade St.
Nicholas and Black Peter of their
worthiness. Colorful as spring
tulips and complete with wooden
shoes and bobbing Dutch caps, the
children clustered around St.
Nicholas mounted upon his white
steed to sing "Jolly Old St.
Nicholas.”
Nearby Germany’s Christmas was
brought to life by the third graders
who trimmed a very special
evergreen with toys and candles

that glowed as brightly as the cheer
in their hearts. In the dark the
strains of “0 Christmas Tree" and
“Silent Night" seemed to emanate
from the magical glowing tree.
The English customs of decorating
with greenery and bringing in the
yule log were portrayed in a play
by the fourth graders. Surely a
fortunate year is in store for them
as they observed the tradition of
sitting on the yule log for good
luck. Another group from the
fourth grade entertained with a
nostalgic choral reading of “The
Friendly Beasts."
A final tour of four countries was
conducted by the fifth and sixth
graders who zoomed by “Jingle
Jet" to stops in Italy, Denmark,
Ethiopia, and Mexico. Tickets sold
for a "song” and Christmas
“cheer” leaders informed the
audience of unusual customs in
each country. Os particular interest
were the bearded elf Julenisse who
watches over children in Italy, the
game of Ko-lee played in Ethiopia
by young boys, Old Befona of Italy
who searches for the Christ Child
in each good child, and the
tradition of searching for lodgings
for the Holy Family in Mexico.
For a finale, the entire group
joined to re-emphasize the overall
theme with a resounding version of
“It’s a Small World.” Viewers and
participants left feeling that they
had received a true “cheer-full
earful" and a boisterous boost for a
“Hip-Hip-Holiday.”
Library Needs

the Newton County Library will
accept all long overdue books with

closets and bookshelves to see if
you have any books overdue for the
