Sean Is Really a Dog
'Horse' Nears Championship

Sean, the two year old Irish Wolf
Hound belonging to the Rucker
Ginn family is already a blue
ribbon winner and well on his way
to being a champion.
Not yet fully grown, Sean
measures 35 inches to his shoulder
and weighs approximately 135
pounds. To help develop his
muscles he is walked from one to
two miles almost every day.
Tinsley, is assisted by her mother
in training the dog. Her means of
walking him is riding her bicycle
while holding his leash as he walks
beside her.
In October, at the dog show in
Hampton, Sean was awarded a
blue ribbon for best of breed and
he has already won several other
smaller awards at shows in Atlanta,
Augusta, Macon, Chattanooga and
in South Carolina. He only needs
three points to receive his cham
pionship papers and they say he
should receive these in South
Carolina at the next show in which
he will be entered.
The dogs vary in color, some even
being red, however Sean is silver
grey. While walking the dog when
he was only a year old Mrs. Ginn
said the family had a scare. Sean
suddenly ran after a deer they
barely got a glimpse of. They were
afraid he was gone, but after a
little while he returned.
Tinsley is training him to stand,
sit and walk for the shows, however
she prefers her mother to put him
through his act. Though a show
dog and already an enormous size,
this dog is also a house pet of the
entire family and is allowed in the
home with them just as our smaller
house dogs would be.
This unusual dog is the only one
known to be in our area, however
Tullamore Kennels at Conyers has
these dogs. The Ginn family
secured Sean from this kennel
when he was three months old. His
parents were brought to America
from Ireland.
Mrs. Ginn said these were the
dogs used a long time ago in
Ireland to kill the wolves in that
country. They are a very gentle
breed and though used to kill the
wolves they return home to their
owners as gentle as before their
kill.
Known as Gazehounds by some
people, they received this name

companion and trainer, as he stands on her
shoulders to lick her face in typical family love
