The Oak Hill Cubs took the
Athletics in a close game. The
winning pitcher was Willie

high jumper
Georgia track coach Lewis
Gainey has announced the signing
of high jumper Roy Lee Dykes
to a grant-in-aid.
Dykes, a native of Big Stone
Gap, Va., captured the Virginia
state class A high jump cham
pionship this year and has a best
jump of 6-8. He holds the school
record in the high jump and also
the mile relay.
Mets, Athletics in 33-29 marathon game

The Mets kept their winning
streak going Saturday by defeat
ing the Padres 17-8.
Hitting doubles for the Mets
were Jeff Criswell, Lonnie Gillian
and Steven Coe. Ken Harper hit
a homerun in the second inning.
Dennis Dickson and Steven Coe
had 4 RBl's each. Jeff Hawkins,
Bryan Garner, and Chuck Curtis
batted 3 for 3 for the Padres.
Highlights on defense were: Fly
balls caught by Bryan Taylor.
Ken Harper. Shane Pickett, and
Dexter Scott. Putouts made on
first and second by Phil Phillips
and Lonnie Gillian. Centerfielder
Jeff Criswell threw a runner out
at second for an important out.
The most unusual play of the
day was made by the Padres
second baseman Jeff Hawkins
and pitcher Dewayne Parrish.
Hawkins caught a fly ball,
dropped it and was caught by
Parrish for the 3rd out of that
inning. Britt Treadwell played a
good defensive game for the
Padres.

Skate party
for Tigers
The T-League Covington Tigers
had a skating party May 25 at
Utopian Skating Rink given them
for winning third place in the
coupon book sale at the begin
ning of the season.
They were also treated to a hot
dog cookout by the parents
before going skating.
All the family enjoyed the
cookout and skating but were a
little sore the next morning. The
Tigers would like to express their
appreciation to Mrs. Bailey for
tbe good time skating.
Bears win
over Braves
The Bad News Bears took their
third win Monday over the
Braves by the score of 13-10 to
bring their record to 3-1.
Renita Whaley led the defensive
effort for the Bears with five
8 unassisted outs. Also playing good
. defense for the Bears were
Deneen Phillips. Kelly Leach.
Lori Head. Abby Burrell. Keisha

Cubs and the Rebels ended in a
Rebel victory of 5 - 4. Great
defensive and offensive ball was
played by both ball chibs. The
leading hitters for the Rebels

4 and Joey LaMacchio with his
fourth home run of the season.
The leading hitters for the Cubs
were Keith Mitchell with 2 for 4
and Tony White 2 for 4. The

Wednesday night by a close score
of 33 to 29. The score indicates
that both teams were red hot
with the bats.
Dexter Scott had one homerun
and 3 doubles for the Mets. Phil
Phillips, Lonnie Gillian, Jeff Cris
well. Doug Bryan. Ron Hill,
Brady Head and Bryan Taylor
all had doubles. Steven Coe,
Clint Dial. Dennis Dickson and
Mike Criswell and Shane Pickett
had RBl’s to aid their team’s
victory.

The Padres held the Braves
close for four innings Monday
night before the Braves' bats got
hot. Getting big singles and

port. R. Vining, Joe Cagle, Lee
Hinton, and S. Lawless. Todd
Moss also got a big double in
the 4th.

The Red Devils beat the
Rangers in a game May 19th for
their fifth win. Teresa Hulsey
made an unassisted double play
in the third inning. All girls
played an outstanding game.

The Red Devils got their 6th
straight win May 24th when they
took the Tangettes 20-6. Angie
Galloway and Sheri Ward made
a great double-play in the fourth
inning. Virginia Lunsford regis

The Red Devils played their
usual good ball Monday night
when they beat the Cajun Queens
23-6. This is their eighth straight
win. All girls played fantastic
ball. Keep it up Red Devils.

Halfback Mike Nolley of the Rams White team
picked up a total of 42 yards in nine carries in the
Annual Spring Game recently. The game ended
in a 6-6 tie anti now the players' thoughts arc
about the fall practice before the season opens on
Sept. 3 on Sharp Field.
