'Little Mary Sunshine 1
fun for the whole family
"Little Mary Sunshine," the
musical spoof which won a place
as one of the biggest hits in New
York's off-Broadway history, will
be the n^xt attraction at The
Harlequin Dinner Theatre to be
presented June 10 through July
1«.
This production will mark the
return of the “Where’s Charley"
cast which opened The Harlequin
with critical acclaim in December.
One of the most successful off-
Broadway musicals ever written
"Little Mary Sunshine" pokes
gentle fun at the Jeanette Mc-
Donald • Nelson Eddy style of
musical comedy.
Goodness, virtue and innocence
are the keynotes to "Little Mary
Sunshine.” The scene is in an
inn in the awe-inspiring grandeur
of the magnificent Colorado
Rockies, which will be brought to
Atlanta at great expense.
Ilie chorus consists, on the male
side, of the Forest Rangers and
on the giggling, sweetly simpering
side, the young ladies of East
chester Finishing school ... exactly
equal in number, of course.

the brave Capt. "Big Jim" War

her U[M>n his return from a most
dangerous mission dealing with
the evil Indian, Yellow Feather,
and other assorted bad types.
This hilarious spoof of damsels

dastardly villains, features songs
like "Colorado Love Cail" in
place of "The Indian Love Call"
and "Look for a Sky of Blue",
instead of "Look For The Silver

One will recognize all the take

Self-defense is
one class away
A young man under the in
fluence of drugs recently choked
his mother to death in a large
Georgia city.
R. H. Grantham of Atlanta
believes the women still would be
alive today if she had learned a
few simple techniques of self
defense.
Grantham, a retired Delta
Airline employe, presently is
teaching a course in self-defense
to women and youth on Thur
sday evenings at Snapping Shoals
EMC. The series of classes is
being sponsored by the Newton
County Extension Service under
the direction of Mrs. Lottie B.
Johnson, extension home
economist.
Grantham, a soft-spoken man in
his sixties, designed the course,
which includes actual practice of
such techniques as how to take a
gun away from an assailant when
you know he’s going to pull the
trigger and how to cross your
arms above your head if an
attacker has an object such as a
broken bottle in his hand.
The instruction method is a
combination of lecture and
practice by participants in the
class. Grantham is assisted by
Bill Stewart who has had five
years of experience in self-defense
instruction and Pat Hicks who
also had been involved in self
defense for five years.
Grantham said the course enable
young girls and women of all
ages to learn to defend them
selves in the event of attack
without using extra strength or
having had long years of practice
and exercise.
“You will be able to conquer
the fear that strikes when you
don't know what to do in your
own defense. And once the fear
is gone, woe to the attacker when

Through techniques developed
by Grantham over the years,
women are able to inflict pain to
an attacker and even hold down
an adult man or permanentlx
injure him.
The course covers safety in the
use of the telephone, how to deal
with an immediately attack,
problems of dating, protection at
home and on the street and
protection in apartment houses,
parking lots, shopping centers and
other public places.
Grantham and his aides teach
tecnhiques of Judo. Jui Jitsu.
Akido and Karate and other
martial arts which they say are
easily learned by women.
Participants in the class also are
given instruction in Georgia law
in order to avoid litigation as a
result of using their new-found
skills.
Among the groups Grantham
has instructed are student nurses
at Grady Hospital, the Atlanta
