Fidelis class
meets at
First Baptist
The fellowship hall of Covington
First Baptist Church was the
scene Wednesday afternoon of the
October meeting of the Fidelis
Matrons Class of which Mrs.
Rachel Daniels is the teacher.
The meeting was presided over
by Mrs. Nell Nixon, outreach
leader, and opened with prayer
by Mrs. Barney Mitcham. Mrs.
Nixon welcomed the 16 members
present with a special welcome
given to Mrs. C. G. Henderson
after an extended absence due to
illness.
An inspiring devotional was
given by Mrs. Rembert Kitchens
on “Life’s Extras." Her thoughts
were based on Genesis 1:31 and
Ecclesiastes 3:1-11. She closed
her interesting talk with a poem
entitled “These Joys Are All
Mine.”
Reports were heard from the
various group leaders with reports
given on the sick and absent
members. Minutes of the last
meeting were read by Mrs.
Mitcham, secretary and Mrs. Nell
Burton, corresponding secretary,
reported on cards sent to sick
and bereaved. Miss Thelma
Towns was recognized as an
October birthday celebration.
Mrs. R. B. Yancey, treasurer,
gave her report, with the amount
given to missions by the class
and collected the dues. Mrs.
Henderson and Miss Mae Greer
expressed their thanks for their
cards during their illnesses.
Mrs. Daniels suggested the class
donate Gideon Living Memorial
Bibles in memory of Mesdames
Pauline Collins, Sue Low, Mattie
Avery and Walter Nunn. The
meeting closed with prayer by
Mrs. R. L. Prather.
The hostesses, Mrs. Nell Burton
and Mrs. Bell Kitchens, invited
the guests into the dining area
where they were seated at a long
table overlaid with a gold cloth
centered with a wooden bowl
with an artistic arrangement of
fruit flanked by small pumpkins
arranged on multi-colored fall
leaves.
A plate containing chicken salad,
pimento cheese sandwiches, chips,
crackers, lime jello salad, pound
cake and coffee was served.
During the social hour the guests
expressed their thanks to the
hostesses.
Baptist men
convene in
Porterdale
The Porterdale Baptist Men
held their regular monthly
meeting at the church Oct. 18,
with 14 members and two visitors
attending.
Various projects were discussed
including painting of the church,
acquiring clothing for a needy
family who lost their home in a
fire, moving and tuning a piano,
donated by the Tommy Campbell
family to Bolingreen Nursing
Home.
The Brotherhood planned a
breakfast for Sunday morning,
Nov. 14, at 8 a.m. at the Village
Inn and the group will then
participate in the Men's Choir for
the morning service at the
church.
Rev. Randy Shuert was
welcomed as the guest speaker
for the meeting. He brought a
most inspiring message to the
group which was enjoyed by all.
