God only once in all human history
walked down the starlit stairway of
heaven to earth with a baby in His
arms. At that moment the Christmas
Spirit was born. How can you
measure the Chirstmas Spirit in your
own life this Christmas? I'd like to
suggest three ways: heighth, depth,
and width.
First, you can measure your Christ
mas Spirit by the height of your

giving. High giving is giving to
human hurts and needs without ex
pecting them to give in return. How
many gifts are you giving this
Christmas to people who can’t give
in return? Those are the ones that
count for the Christmas Spirit.
Second, you can measure your
Christmas Spirit by the depth of
your forgiveness. How many people
have you forgiven who have done
you wrong? Maybe a close friend or
a relative or a parent has done some
thing to hurt you. Don’t get bitter,
forgive them this Christmas. Bake
them a cake or buy them a small gift
or make a phone call and let them
know the Christmas Spirit is flowing
through your life in a mighty way.
Finally, you can measure your
Christmas Spirit by the width of
your heart’s door to the Savior. The

THE BIBLE
No. 247. The Death of Sennacherib
When King Hezekiah heard of the Assyrian threat to Judah, he
sent his messengers to Isaiah, asking the prophet to pray for the
people. Isaiah sent word to the king, saying that there was no cause
for worry, for the Lord would see to it that Sennacherib would
receive a note asking him to return home at once, and there in
Assyria he would be slain.
However, Hezekiah received a threatening and blasphemous
letter from Sennacherib. Then Hezekiah went to the Temple to pray.
And the Lord responded to the prayer by promising that the
Assyrians would not come into the city nor shoot a single arrow
there, for the Lord would defend the city from its enemies for His
sake and for the sake of David
"Then the angel of the Lord went forth, and smote in the camp of
the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand,- and when
they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead
corpses. So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and
returned, and dwelt at Nineveh. And it came to poss, as he was
worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and
Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword, and they escaped into
the land of Armenia: and Esarhoddon his son reigned in his stead."
(Isaiah 37:36-38)

The utility official, who heads the
company's economic services
program, said the plan allows die
customer to make decisions on
conservation himself. “He still may
use power when demand on the
system is heavy, but he must pay
more for it,” Hensley said. “Yet he
also may economize by delaying his
heavy power needs until the critical
or peak fieriod is over."
The utility official said the pilot
program, including tests to deter
mine feasibility of statewide ap
plication, will cost $850,000 over a
two-year period. Equipment tests are
scheduled for May, 1977, in Wrens
in Jefferson County.
