Financial aid meeting
Wed.night at NCCHS
A panel of experts on financial aid
for post-secondary education will be
held in the Newton County Compre
hensive High School cafeteria on
Wednesday evening, Dec. 8, at 7:30
p.m. This meeting has become a
well-attended annual event for
parents and students who are inter
ested in receiving assistance for any
type of education beyond high
school. The program is not designed
exclusively for seniors. With the
rising cost of education, school offi
cials say juniors, sophomores and
even freshmen will discover that it is
not too early to explore the possibili
ty of applying for aid when they are
I ready to attend college, technical
7 school, nursing school or any other
. advanced educational studies.

"Boar's head feast" planned
The Newton County Historical
Society, Inc., will celebrate
Christmas at an “Oide English
Boar's Head Feast" on Tuesday
evening, Dec. 7, in a salute to the
mother country in conclusion of the
Bicentennial year. The Oxford
Shrine Society will be their guests as
the New Porterdale School Cafeteria
becomes a setting reminescent of the
great halls of Medieval England.
“Queen Saraclide” Patterson
(president of the organization! and
“King Obie I” Brewer (vice
president) will enter to the first
fanfare and greet the guests as they
enter the hall. A traditional
Elizabethan program will be
presented by the Department of
Music and Drama of the First
United Methodist Church of
Marietta. The Madrigal Singers,
dressed in old world costumes, will
be seated at the high banquet table.
The trumpeters will herald the six
parts of the evening: first, Singers’
Processional; second, Lighting of
the Candles; third, Wassail Bowl
and Christmas Toast; fourth, Boar's
Head Processional and Serving of
the Feast; fifth, Flamynge Plum

parents. Boltman will also handle
aid programs in Health Careers.
Ms. Doris Westbrook, director of
financial aid for DeKalb Communi
ty College, will discuss programs
available to students in technical
programs and state junior colleges.
Ms. Westbrook has been a panel
member each year that these
meetings have been held.
Dr. Andy Pate of Oxford College
will provide information and answer
questions about the types of assis
tance available to applicants to pri
vate colleges, both at the junior and
four-year college levels. Dr. Pate has
Pudding; and sixth, Madrigal
Singers' Concert.

JAPANESE PAINTINGS
LOS ANGELES (API — The Los
Angeles County Museum of Art has
acquired five important Japanese
paintings of the Edo period (1615-
1868).
George Kuwayama, senior curator
of Far Eastern art, says the paintings
are from the most creative, varied
and prolific periods in Japanese art.
The paintings were purchased with
funds donated by Frederick Weis
man and Associates. "The biggest
Japanese population of the United
States is in Los Angeles," said
museum trustee Weisman. "My
hope is that with this gift interest will
be stimulated in the community so
that we may develop one of the finest
collections of Japanese art in the
United States."

Bill Lee, director of financial aid
for Georgia Tech, will be back this
year to discuss financial aid in the
special interest college and the engi
neering and science-oriented pro
gram.
Ms. Doris Mathis, financial aid
consultant, University of Georgia,
will be returning to present pro
grams open to students in the state
colleges with emphasis on the larger
schools.
All parents and students who are
seeking answers to questions about
what financial aid is available, how
to apply for financial aid and when
to apply will have the opportunity to
get the answers they need directly
from the people who handle the pro
grams with the money.
