When the infant of Mr. and Mn*. A.
M. Knight died la*4 Saturday night in
their seaside cottage at St Simons Island,
it was the desire of the parents to con
vey the little body to Jacksonville for
interment. The steamer F.gmont was at
the island with a party of excursionists,
under charge of Mr. J. E. McElveen and
F. E. Twitty. Capt. Smith, of the Eg-
in on t readily consented for the dis
tricted father to take the little corpse
over to Brunswick, so that he could
take the morning train and t>e in Jack
sonville Sunday noon. When, however,
the father took the body to the steamer,
it was discovered that some of the party
| objected to his taking it on the steamer,
and slowly ami sadly the father with his
friends !*earing the lifeless infant, were
forced to return to their desolate cottage
ami to the heart-broken mother, where
it lay until the regular boat at noor
next * lay, ami thus the father failed to
get it into Jacksonville till Monday
morning—nearly 24 hours later. We
learn further that Mr. Kuight was sub
jected to further indignities by the tele

brated the anniversary of St. John the

pleasant social meeting of the memWrs
and their families in their hall. After a
short time given to addresses, they were
invited by the Stewards to a collation,
consisting of a plentiful vupplAif ice
cream, lemonade and cake, which disap-
{•eared as if by magic. This Wing dis

bor's piazza.
Mr. E. H. Eeed, wife, sou and (laugh
ter spent Sunday as the guests of Mr
and Mn*. E. II. Beed. Master Harry
and Miss Man* remained for a week of
aquatic sport. The early part of the
week was aquatic in even- sense of the
wont. It rained in a steady, uncompro
mising way that was especially trying to
the young folks, who wanted .nothing but
outdoor life at St. Simon’s, pavilions
were wet, piazzas and hammocks
drenched, the pretty green grass was
sodden and, not satisfied with holding
sway outside, the wind an*I rain sought
out each crack and crevice in the little
houses to make unwelcome acquaintatie
with the discomfited house kee|>ei>.
But the teni|ieramem of the colony is
not mercurial, and neither wind,
nor heat can destroy the holiday i
the encampment nor mnr the genial
bonhuinit of the place.
The fishing record has Wen almvc
the average this week. It seems to W
only a question of procuring bait. Shrimp
are hatil to capture and the “fiddler"
bank is some distance away.
Mrs. Leon Wilson had the pleasure ot
supplying her little family with a fine
mess of whiting from her own hook and
line, while a prouder angler never
landed a troublesome trout with more *
light than Mrs. Geo. Turner brought
a three and a half sheep head, alone ami
unaided.
