The game of ball between W*ycra»

der a great disadvantage on account of
the rain. At first the Illaekshear team
did good playing, making three or four
run*. Hut the Wavcross boy* rallied.
a* they always do when they get well
started, and scored three runs. How
ever at the end of the third inning when
the game began to grow interesting, the

the game. According to the rules,

loist week we piiblish(*l an ordinance
by the the city council with reference to
the sale of liquor*. It was found that
prohibition or high license law was
being systematically evaded and this
finance was framed by the city attor
ney, Col. S. W. Hitch, to meet the issue
nvolved. This measure has lM*cn the
mhject <*f much criticism, both favorable
md adverse. We are of the opinion
hat the action of the council will have
the effect of determining definitely whe
ther there is any power under the authori
ty of law to successfully resist this eva-
n of the plain will of the people. As
have suggested before, if liquor can
lie sold successfully in violation of law
and the city derive no revenue from its
ifle, would it not be better sold le
gally under ]>olice regulation and such
license as will aid materially the city’s
finances? This ordinance we think will
settle the question of expediency.
A very unfortunate aecideut hapi»ened

S. F. & W. R. 11., on last 8aturday. In
attemptuig to pitch a hall so as to give
it that-pacaliar twirl known to base ball
players, hi* right arm was broken above
the ellmw. Such an accident is very un
usual if net unheard of. The pain was
so intense that be became pale and had
to Ik* supported. He was taken to the
drug store and in a short time the bone
was set aud enclosed in plaster paris.
Though the loss of the use of hi* arm
cause* him great inconvenience, we are
glad to u«tc that he i* not confined to
his room, aud hope that he may soon he
able to resume his place at the key.
