resentative of Charlton on Wednesday.
Hi* majority over the Third Party
didate, S. F. Mills, wa* 109. Russell,
regular democratic nominee, received
127 majority over Proctor, the Third
Party candidate for senator. The peo
ple of Charlton are enthusiastic ore
result, and at Folkston on the night of
the election they celebrated the event
by a grand democratic love feast. Charl
ton is thoroughly democratic.

The victorious “dry” party held a jol
lification meeting at tl>« Opera house,
Wednewlay night. Many ladic* came
to show their gratification at the happy
turn of affairs, and the house fairly bub
bled over with joy. On the stage were
the beaming countenances of the chief
workers on the prohibition side. The
meeting wa* gracefully presided over by
Mr. W. W. Sharpe, and appropriate
short addresses made hv the Rev. Mr.
Matthew*, Judge Sweat, Col. Wilson,
Mr. Tooraer, Col. Hitch, M^C. Austin,
Rev. Green and Prt>f. Snelson. The
meeting on leaving the Opera house, was
treated to a bon-fire and fire-works by
the boys, and hearty cheer* were sent up
for Wilson.

Mr. John Brooks, one of the oldest
citizens of Charlton county, died at his
home last Tuesday night He retired
apparent good health, and his family
was surprised upon attempting to awaken
him in the morning to find that he had
fallen into that *leep from which there
is no waking. Mr. Brooks was 82 years
of age.

metta, N. J., created much excitement
in that vicinity. Investigation showed
that the disease was not cholera hut a
violent dysentery, which fa almost as
severe and dangerous as cholera. Mr.
Walter Willard, a prominent merchant
of Jamesburg, two miles from Helmetta,
