After this week the mints of Mex ico will be closed to the free coinage of silver, and on the first of June that country goes on a gold basis. This will leave Chine the ouly great na tion of the world which adheres to silver standard. In fact, Bolivia and a few of he South American coun tries are alone of the smaller nations which have not adopted gold as the basis of the country. The action of Mexico is of particu lar Interest to the United States be cause of the close trade relations be tween the two countries. More than two thirds of the products which Mex ico sells to the rest of the world are purchased by this country, while one- half of her exports are bought from Uncle 8am. Burton Holmes, the lecturer, tells of a Russian he saw some years ago ManchuriA whose methods achieving results were not according to the usual code. The Russian had a well in front of his yard which he concluded to fill up. He began by digging a hole by the side of the well, throwing the dirt from the new ex cavation into the well. “In the course of time,” says Mr. Holmes, "the old well was filled, but there was a hole along-sido as big as tho first The Russian went further away and dug another holo to fill the second. "He continued this process of dig ging ono hole to fill the other, until he literally ran the hole out of town. 1 LAWYERS. Olfics in F»w Lott and Hitch BnildH S IMON W. A JAMES W. HITCH.
