Miss Annie Laurie Adams,

of Eatonton, is the guest of her
aunt, Mrs. B. R. Adams, at the
Monticello Hotel,
Miss Mary Hill, daughter of
Chancellor Hill, is stopping over
a few days with her cousin, Miss
Ruth Hill, enroute from Macon
to her home in Athens.
Mr. Cha .ey Ridley, of Hills
boro, spuuat a few days here this
week with his mother before
leaving for Augusta where he
goes to enter a medical college.
Mrs, Sanders, of Terrall, Ind.
Terr'y., ison a visit to Georgia
relatives. She and her sister,
Mrs. Howard Bullard,of Machen,
were guests Monday and Tuesday
of Mrs. W. M. Bullard.
Mr. Troy Cornwell, of Mechan
icsville, who formerly had a po
sition with Dr. R, 1.. Furse, has
been greeting his Monticello
friends this week. Mr. Cornwell
called at Tue News office and
placed an order for job work.
Editor Holder, of the Athens
Banner, will please accept our
thanks for a complimentary ticket
to the Northeast Georgia Tair to
‘be held in that city October sth to
the roth. The Banner is putting
in sdme ‘good work for the fair and
we predict for it a grand success.
At a conference held at the Bap
tist church last Tuesday night ‘it
was decidea‘by the members to
extend a call to Rev, E. R. Pendle
ton, of Reynolds, Georgia, to serve
them as pastor to fill the place of
Rev. C. A. Ridley who has resign
ed togoto Quitman, Mr. Pendle
ton has been notified of the action
of the church.
Sheriff Wilburn's son, E\xgex;e.
was accidentally shot last Friday
by his little brother, Sam, who
was loading a parlour rifle. In
some way the weapon went off
and the contents passed through
his arm above the elbow, inflicting
a painful wound. Eugene is a
student of the Technological
school, but will be unable to re
turn for several days, He is do
ing nicely, however, and we trust
will soon recover from the effects
of the wound,

Flinch Party. |
Miss Sarah Jordan entertained a
number of friends very pleasantly
at a small but enjoyable flinch
party Saturday afternoon. The
parlor was made very bright and
attractive with vases filled with
roses. The prize, a handsome
Maman Cochet, was drawn fer and
won by Mrs. E. A. Greene. Miss
Gussie Glover rendered delightful
music on the piano which added
much to the pleasure of the after
noon. Delicious fruits were enjoy
ed by those in attendance and the
occasion was characterized by a de
gree of informality and cordiality
which rendered the afternoon one
'of much pleasure to the guests.—

Dies at Age of Ninety-Three.
Mr., William Penn, father of Mr.
Andrew Penn, of this place, died
at his home near Cullman, Ala., a
few days ago at the age of ninety
three.
Mr. Penn and Mr. Sam Wil
burn, who is the oldest white citi
zen of Jasper county, attended the
same school, taught by Prof. Bass
near Starrsville, about seventy
five years ago.

inent young business man of this
city. The couple have many
