The West Virginia building at
the World's Fair is practicaliy fin
ished, and it presents a handsome
appearance. The original con-}
struction price was SIB,OOO but the
plans were altered and severull
thousand dollars more were ex-|
pended on it. |
The Oklahoma building at the}
World’s Fuir is completed. ()n?
Nov. 10, the structure was formal- |
ly accepted by the Territorial
Commission. Besides the Com
mission, the Governor and other
officials attended the ceremonies,
Miss Sue Sutherland, a teacher
in the city schoocls at Owensboro,
Ky., is using the Louisina Pur
chase Exposition map, issued by
the World’s Fair at St. Louis, as
supplemental matter before her
pupils. The purchase of the
Louisiana territory, which now
;cmbruces about one-third of the
‘tntul area of the entire United
ih‘mtes was one of the most inter
esting acts in American history,
‘and a school child of today takes
‘very kindly to any instruction a
long this line, because so many of
‘them contemplate visiting the ex
‘position at St. Louis next year,
‘which is to commerorate this great
event.

Washington, D, C., Dec. 8.
There is going to be a whole lot
of fun here on or about the 11th
and 12th of the present month
when the Republican National
Committee meets for the purpose
of selecting the time and place for
tie holding of the'next Republican
National Convention. There is
going to be an attempt made at
that meeting to fire the Hon,
Perry S, Heath, Secretary of the
Republican National Committee,
The late report of Hon. Joe Bris
| tow, Fourth Assistant Postmaster
’Gcneral, has thrown the harpoon
!into Mr. Heath with all the energy |
of a man who wanted to get even
'for some things, and that report
has stirred up the President to the
sticking stage, and says that Mr.}
Heath must go. Senator Hanna,
,the Chairman of the Committee, is
Ithc friend of Heath, and he is as
linsistent that Mr. Heath must not
be disturbed. This presents an
issueat once between the President
|:md the Senator from Ohio, who
|ls the real leader of the republican
party. The President apparently
forgets that he did not make up
the present National Commit:ece
of the republican party, which
wiclds the mmfluence and controls
things until its successor is elected
at the next national republican
convention, bit that it was made
up by McKinley and Hanna, ana
therefore is under the control of
Hanna. This being the case, the
committee will accept the dictum
of Hanna and refuse to ‘‘fire”
Heath, That will discredit Roose
velt and at the same time place the
repubiican pargy in the attitude of
working in the interest of a man,
who practical'y has been indicted
for boodhing in the Pust Office De- |
yartment There is going to be &
warm time and much republican
dirty linen will be washed for the
delectation cf the general public,
It wil: be a straight fight between
Harna and Roosevelt and Haunna
is going to win, Watch the game.
| The Panama deal is still a topic
!(1f political discussion here, and
I the demouvrats are as determined a
ever to make ‘tan issue in the next
,cm;puign. If they do they will
|show up one of the most stupen
dous outrages ever attempted by
this government. From the look:
of things this will be supplement
ed by another attempt on the part
!uf this republican administration
to grab San Domingo. The recent
!troublcs down there have made
[ things ripe for the deal that a few
t men in this country have been try
ing for years to pull off. Itis not
!;;‘cncrally known, but nevertheless
lit is the truth, that the bonds of
l San Domingo, the negro repubiic,
ito the extent of hundreds of
| dollars, are owned in this country
|and are controlled by Senator Mat
i(,guuy, of Pennsylvania, and his co
partners in the grafting game, It
’ this government takes over the is
| land of San Domingo, those bonds,
' which cost the purchasers about
!twcnty-fivc cents on the dollar,
| will be worth par. They, there
fore, will make some three hune
ldred percent profit. The game is
“' worth the candle. Lookout for
' developments in San Domingo,
