With the opening of the forest tree
seedlings distribution season less than
a month away. Bill Millians. Ranger.
Heard County Forestry Unit, remind
ed citizens of this area that help in ■
ordering seedlings from the Georgia
Forestry Commission can be obtained
at County Forestry Unit headquarters.
“Although orders will be taker af
ter the season opens on all species that
still are available at that time", the
Ranger reported, "we advise that as
many orders as possible be placed be
fore the season opens. That advice is
based on the fact that Commission
seedlings are sold on a first come— .
first served' basis; and those who or
^der late may find the supply atmady
has been alloted".
The Ranger explained that despite
the fact Georgia nurser.es are produc
ing more forest tree seedlings than I
any state in the nation, the supply of
ten exceeds the demand.
"Trees in Heard County today," Ran
ger Millians reported, “are a cash
crop, and forestry market experts pre- J
diet they will be an even more valu
able cash crop in 15 years—the approx
imate time it takes for today's seed
lings to grow to merchantable size."
The County Forestry Unit head said
ords' blanks can be obtained at the
Unit headquarters at Franklin. The
Unit also will mail order blanks to!

Hogansville Friends Give
Television To Retired
Preacher
Imagine the surprise of the Retired I
Preacher when Whitley Barrett called ,
me and told me that my Hogansville :
friends wished to present to Mrs. Ad
ams and myself a television set. He
said that a man would be over in an
hour to erect the anal, and that the 1
television would be delivered late that 1
evening. That telephone conversation 1
set many thoughts running in my mind ‘
such as. what have you done to just
ify such? Why have you been selected 1
for this when there are many others
more worthy? I cried like a baby. Mrs .
Adams saw me crying and thought (
there was a death. That evening Whit
ley and Dorothy came with the tele
vision set. I thought that was some- «
thing that I would never own. It does <
make a person feel very strange. The i
Hogansville people have been good to a
this preacher. Within the first two or ;
three months after we arrived in He- J
ard County, they started out with s
their kindness to us. And it has con
tinued until this good day. Yes. Ho
gansville friends, we thank you. Every 1
time we look at the television we will *
think at you. a
