i Last Thursday was a memorable

It wss the oceasion of the annu

of the Terrell County Alliance.
From an early hour in the morn
ing until 10 o%lock ecountless
gtreams of people flowed through
the streets ol Dawson on their way
to the Cross Roads. A spactator
who stood upon one of our strests
remarked that it seemoad as if the
whole of the Gth and 12th distriets
Ih:ul emptied themselves into the
I city on their way to the great resar.
I voir that ha 1 upened itself south of
-us to the people of the county. As
it appesred north of us, so did it
appeai xast and west ot us to other
eyes.
| It was a most pleasant sizht to
witness this continual travel of wo-=
men and men who, intent upon the

I gaiety.
By ten o'clock in the morning
the crowd had arvived on the
gronnds, and it was estimated at
from 3,000 to 4,000,
l A striking peculiarity and one of
the virtues of the day was the de
’ourum exhibited by every one
’pro.\nnt. It was a wellsbehaved
crowd in every particalar. Not a
single thing ocenrred to mar the
enjoyment of the day.
A crowd like that, closely as)-
ciated with the intelligence of the
connty, had to be spoken to, and
as Ml, Northern was not present,
some one had to speak, and it fell
te the lot of Mr, A. C. Hill, candi
date for the senate, to tead off. He
was followed by Me. W.an. Jens
nincz, candidate for the house~
These gentlemen defined their po
sitions on some ot theissues of the
day, and their speeches were well
received.
Judge J. H. Guerry was alwo
called upon, and in hiz usual way
enlivened all present by his elo
quence, his salties of humor and his
practical iliustrations. All under
stood him as standing squarely up
ou the principles of the aliiance n

Butthe ““east of reazon and the

The appetites of many were met by
an abandance of friel chicken,
wnd the eonventional chicken pie,

our housewives are capable of, was
there to gladdea the tastes of ali
who are partial to it. This was
flainked on all siles by homawmal:

In the muny gatheringsof the
people of Terrell connty it is the

did the people of the county meet
with so suceessiul an oceasion as
was that at the Cross Roads last
Thursday.

Albany Defeats Oar Boys. '
~ Inagame of ball between the

that our boys got eattied and piay

then our boys were not at home,
md were easily excited by the
“warshoop” that continually is
sued from the throats of the ens
