* OCTOBER WEATHER,
’ - Irl R. Hicks’ Forecasts of
. Coming Storms,
By special arrangement with the
V. Irl Hicks, the noted weather
~ prophet, we have secured an ad.
rance sheet of hLis meteorological
5 ”recastq, fcr October to appear in
the torthcoming issue of his month«
ly journal.
The forecasts are dated Septem
ber 17, and our farmer readers wi:l
find them of more than usual in
terest as bearing upon planting op
erations,
As we approach the 20th, oyes
trained to meteorological changes
wil! nowe the gathering elements of
approaching storms. Higher ten:
‘perature, falling baromoter, rqs
terly to southerly winds —st, !
The 20th, 21st and 22 il
~daysin the period against which
we would warn our readers. There
is voticeable tendency to stormi
ness in the regions ot the northern
lakes about this time, and the ap
proaching perturbation of Venus,
together with other canses, will
likely aggravate this tendeney at
this time into violent movements.
The days following up the re
actionary mortements ahout the
26th or 27th, ought to be crisp
and cold, with frez'ny generally
~ to northward. |
October should open with conl, |
bright weather prevailing ia most
parts of the country. Heavy frosts
with some sharp freezing wiil be a
most natural resalt during the
nights tiding us from September
into October. |
On the 2d and 3d a sharp rise in
temperature, followed by stormi.
_ ness, may be look:d for, and by
the time the higher temperature
and storme touch the east, another
blast from the north and west will
have advanced past the middle of
the continent.
About the 7th it will begin to
turn quite warm, with soft skies
and southerly currents, which con
dition will grow until storms of
marked energy show themselves on
danger days—Bth, 9th and 10th.
Meteorological laws will compel a
period of three to four days with
sharp freezing and frosts after
these storms, which condition will
break down progressively from
west to east on and next to the 141}
and 15th. Warm, southerly winds,
with reactionary storms, will be
the result—followed again by the
regular cold wave.
A storm period in which Vulean,
Mercury and Venus are directly
concerned beging about the last
day of October. The month wil!
go oat with rising temperature and
threatening indications, if not ace
tive storms. |
The past summer has abundant
ly verified the prediction of warmer
and drier weather, which we must
repeat, was only the beginning of
a period of at least three seasons in
which the same character of sum
mers will prevail —the crisis being
resched, perbaps, about 1892.
The heavy rains which have
fallen in many places o 8 we ap~
proached our autumnal equinox,
are the natural expressions of des
parting disturbance, the ahsence of
which will be more marked during
the coming year.
The prediction of cool ‘weather
and early {rosts for the present au«
tumn has up to this date been ver
ified by an exceptional degree, and
would seem to be a guarantee of a
further prediction of a longer and
harder winter before us than the
last.
Let us see. Meantime, what
harm can come from careful prep
arations for a colder winter and a
drier, hotter summer to follow?
“The prudent man foreseeth the
evil and lLideth himself, but the
simple pass on and are punished.”
