THE JUDGE AND SOLICITOR
Strongly Endorsed by the Early County

The following complimentary allusions
were contained in the presentments of
the Early county grand jury:
“In parting with His Honor, Judge
J. H. Guerry, who hasso ably and.gcace
fully presided in this judicial cireuit for
nearly three years, we bec to give public
expression to our unbounded confidence
in his wise and impartial administration
of the law. With a strict observance of

““We take pleasure in endorsing the
past official course of our present solici

ability and efficiency in every respect,
and his official course is eminently satis

TWO DELEGATIONS
WILL GO THE CGNGRESSIONAL CON-
I VIINTION
l e s
From Clay County, Says a Gentleman From
Fort Gaines.
Colonel W. A. Scott and Hon. J. R,
Irwin, two prominent citizens of Fort
Gaines, were in Dawson last Friday on
their way home from Albany, where they
had been to attend the second meeting
of the Democratic executive committee
of this congressional district.
Colonel Scott, who is chairman of the
Democratic executive committee of Clay
county, was seen by Tue NEws and
asked about the congressional outlook in
his county.
The gentlemen said that Mr. Stevens
and Colonel Wooten both had strong
friends in his county, but that Mr. Ste.
vens was probably the strongest before
the people.
A primary has been called to elect con
gressional delegates from Clay on next
Saturday. Colonel Scott said that the
anti-alliance Democrats will ignore the
primary on the 30th, while the alliance
Democrats will vote solidly for Stevens,
The anti-alliance Democrats will call a
mass meeting, elect a new executive com
mittee, and hold another primary omn
July 30th, as recommended by the dis
trict committee, and send a contesting
delegation to the nominating convention.
As stated last week, there are many
lively developments ahead in congress
ional circles, and it is more than proba
ble that there will be a contesting dele
gation at the convention from nearly
avery county in the district.
Many believe that the result will be
that there will be two conventions held
and two candidates in the race at the
November election.

The Baptist Meeting.
The meeting at the Baptist church has
continued wi*h increasing interest. It

but iv his absence he will be remember

Returned to the Party. z
Last week THe NEws mentioned the
fact that a Third party had been organ
ized in Colquitt.
Hon. O. B. Stevens went down to Col

rescind their former action and renew
their allegiance to the Democratic party.

STEVENS STANDS FIRM.
The Third Party Apostle Given No Com
fort.
Last Friday Mr. J. B. Daniel, of Atlan
ta, arrived in Dawson.
His fame as a Third partyite had pre
ceded him, and his coming caused
much interest,
Mr. Daniels openly advocated Third
party doctrine, and his business here
was to form a Third party.
He met with no encouragement during
his several days’ stay, and left without
accomplishing anything.
While here he held a conference with
Hon. O. B. Stevens and endeavored to
induce him to declare for the new party.
Mr. Stevens stood firm. He told Dan
iel that he always h d been a Democrat,
that he entered the Congressional race
as Democrat, and that he would close it
as such,
Mr. Stevens further stated to him that
the body who recommended him for Con
gress was composed of Democrats, and
that they submitted his claims to the
Democratic party.
Before leaving Mr. Daniels stated that
he met with no encouragement in Daw
son, but expressed the determination to
return later and try it again.
KILLED AN EAGLE.
One of These Birds Shot Near Parrott
Sunday Morning,
Probably the only eagle ever seen in
Terrell county was killed last Sunday
by Mr. Jonas Wills, near Parrott.
The eagle was shot by Mr. Wills while
it had its talons fastened in a hog be
longing to that gentleman.
The head of the bird was exhibited in
Dawson this week.
Had Served Her Time Out.
Friday Captain McClelland recognized
on the streets a negro woman who was a
convict when he was connected with the
penitentiary department. He thought
that she had escaped, and had Chief
Hatcher to arrest her. She convinced
them that she had served her time out,
and was permitted to go her way. The
woman’s name was Mittie Wilkins, and
she was sent up from Ribb county for
burglary.
