The entertainment given by Mr. and
Mrs. A. J. Carver on last Wednesday
evening, complimentary to Miss Jones,
was a very pleasant occasion. Fifteen
or twenty young people were entertained
by Mr. and Mrs. Caver in a very charm
ing manner,
The tea given by Miss Mattie Alcott,
on Friday evening, brought tdgether a
very charming party of young people.
Miss Alcott is a rarely graceful and bril
liant hostess—ind«ed, no young woman
has ever entertained with more individ
ual charm and ease, and this oecasion
was qaite a gala affair.

On Sunday morning, at the residence
of the bride’s parents, Mr. E. H. Thom
as and Miss Maggie Heidt were mar
ried by Judge J¢ W. Roberts. The
groom is an employe of the Dawson
Manufacturing Co.. and is an energetic
young man, while the bride is possessed
of those qualities that fit her for the du
ties of a helpmeet. THE NEwWS extends

- Mr. Wm. Turner and Miss Ada Webb
drove up to the oftics of Judge J. M.
Simmons, in this ecity, on last Sunday
morning, and were married seated in the
baggy by this popular justice of the
peace. "hey were invited into
the office, but preferred to take the cer
emony ‘“‘out of doors.”

Rev. E. H. McGehee pa.sed through
the city on last Friday to meet his quar
terly conference which convened at
Richland the next day. Prof. Grubbs
and Judge Anthony, of Parrott, repre
sented the Parroit Methodist church as
stewards at that meeting.

The many friends of Dr. L. C. Goneke
will be glad to learn that he is reecv
ering from his severe sickness at Graves
Station, and will soon be able to, return
to the city. He has been greatly missed
by his host of friends here.

Miss ‘Annie Yarbrough, a former
teacher in the Dawson publie schools,
was married to Mr, J. L. Wells, of
Smithville, a few days ago. The mar
riage oceurred at the home of the bride’s
parents in Randolph county.

Last Saturday Mriti J.F. C. Daaiel, son
of Mr. T. J. Daniel, was married to Miss
Truda Toler, daughter of the late Jordan
Toler, Judge J. W. Roberts performing
the ceremony. We extend congratula
tions.

The sickness of Mr. W. M. Dnnn, of
Parrott, caused much solicitude on the
vart of his friends. He has been, for
some time,on a sick bed, but is now con
valescing to the delight of bis friends.

The author of the beautiful hymn,
“Lord, I care not for riches,”” Frank M.
Davis, was in the city Monday on his way
to Florida. His hymns are world-wide,
and are adroired for their beauty.

Misses Willa and Bessie Wooten, who
have been visiting relatives and friends
in the city, returned to Macon yester
day to resume their studies at Weslyan
_college.

Misses Tassie Overby,of Stewart ccun
ty, and Laura Jowers, of Webster, have
been the guests of Miss Corinne Yar
brough for several days.

Mr. Wm G. Bell, of Nelanville, Tex.,
left for his home a few days ago after a
visit of some weeks to his relatives and
friends in this city.

Mr. W. C. Bynum, the clever and pop
ular sheriff of Randolph county, was in
the city Monday.

Be it ordained by the Mayor and City
Council of the city of Dawson, that Sec
33, Chap. s,Art. 1, Page 26, be amend
ed by inserting the word*‘thai’’before the
word “the’” in the beginning of the first
line, and inserting the words ‘‘and cour
cilmen’’ between the words ‘‘Mayor” an.
¢‘shall” in the first line, and inserting the
words ‘“and the Mayor’’ between ‘‘city”’
and “shall” in the second line of said
ordinance.

83: Beit ordained by the Mayor and
“ouncil of Dawson, that Sec. 57, Chap.
5, Page 33, shall be jamended as follows:

said city without being signed by the
