l THE NEWS FROM WESTON. ‘
E What Is CGoing on in Our Little Neighbor.
- The poople of our umpretending vil
; lige are too busy with their mereantile
uterests, with their farming operations,
tw'lmu'l devotion, and even their horti
ccultural eff wts, to appreciate, much less
; mapufacture, news.
‘ Cool nights and warm days have made
Wing Cotton pretty sick, though he will
diciently recover to command ten cents
| per pound next fall,
! Our people are feasting on garden
Produets. They will soon be. able to
isu[:pl(-mcnt this diet with blackberry
| pics and domplings. There is little
ivhum-.- to down our sovthern people.
| Like ‘izzards, they can live comfortably
on air and the spontaneous productions
(of our soil by the aid of a little ““hog
and hominy,” which, happily for them,
Cthey raist at home. ]
i Our Sabbath schools, one at the Meth
| odist ¢hureh each Sabbath-morning and
one at the Baptist ehurch each Sabbath
| aiterpoon, are n a fiourishing eondition,
, More than ordinary interest is manifest
' ed in these important interests, This in
terest hins not been engendered or stimu
lated by any railroad excursion or picnic,
- Neither school has indulged in anything
; of the kind. !
g Our ay dschool is moving quietly onin
| the even tenorof its way. All our peo
-5 ple are pleased with and proud of it.
| The scholastic year will close on the 16th
jof June, Then our teachers and board
ing puapils will hasten to the springs
! among the mountains and to their homes,
~Our streets, which have been enlivened
iwith erowds of boys and girls during
| nine months, will appear deserted when
the scholastie year ends. Nothing adds
| 60 much to the Jife and cheerfulness of
i any community as a 2 good school. Pros

I Bthiinst. Hers was a brief life, scarcely
thirteen summers, yet she has left an
impressson upon *he hearts of {friends
and associates which time cannot efface.
At home and atschool she was always
! the same sweet, gentle girl, industrious,
self-reliant, sympathetic, benevolent and
thoroughly unselfish., While suffering
unt ld agonies during her short illness,
she never mu mured or complained, but
bore it all. with beautiful fortitude. It
is very, very sad for one so young, 80
pretty, so bright, to be taken from us.
lAnd oh! what pain it gives the dear
mother and rather, sister and brothers,
i(;ud help them o submit toit, and to
meet their darling in the happy world to
which we are sure she has gone.
’ “No more she'll meet us here below,
Her tcit and sacrifice is o'er;
~ And by the river's gentle flo'w,
| She stapds upon the golden shore,
; But tho’ she’ll visit us no more,
Yet we may go to he at last;
And there we'll sing our troubles o’er,
When all life’s labors here aie past.
Farewell, dear Effie May, till we meet
Before the thione of Gadabove;
And east our crown at Jesas’ foek,
And sing the triumphs of Lis love.”
