SHOW'S RECEIPTS SHORT.
LEVITT & SEEMAN EXECUTE A
BILL OF SALE IN DAWSON,
pign't Take in Enough to Pay City
License, Exhibited to a Small
Audience, ‘
[ evitt & Seeman’s dog and pony show
played in pard luck in Dawson, barely
taking 10 enough to pay the city license.
At their afternocon performance the
receipts amounted to $l4, and the night
performance brought in about $20.00,
leaving them a dollar short of ule
amount paid for license, which was $35
The show had evidently played in
pard luck elsewhere, as the manager
was blue and short of cash. During
she afternoon he executed a bill of sale tn
<. A, Peterson of New York and had i
recorded in the office of the clerk of the
guperior court.
). Seeman, who was in charge of the
show, was a very clever and nice gentle
man, and impressed all who met him
favorable.
The performances of the company in
pawson were given under discouraging
circumstances, yet there were some good
features that were enjoyed by the few
who attended the exhibitions.
After the night performance the show
left over the Georgia & Alabama rail
way fou Americus.
THE ENGLISH SPARROW,
A Pest on Which Soener or JLater, War
Must Be Declared.
The English sparrow must, sooner or
later, be the victim of a war of exter
mipation, and the initiative will, in all
probability, be taken in Boston, where
(iese winged pests have grown in num
bers until their ranks are countless.,
'he Boston Herald says:
“The resentment that has so long
heen entertained by a great many people
avainst the Euglish sparrow has at last
been formulated in a petition to the
wmayor of Boston calling for the total ex
letminaiion of the bird as a public pui
since, 4 general expense and a serious
acsthetic injury. ‘The'signers tb the pe
tiiion include a very large number of
people who may fairly be presumed to
know what they are talking about when
they say that this bird is notoriously
uncleav, betouling our buildings and
siatuary, and at the same time driving
out our native birds, which are far more
agreeable and welcome visitors., Quite
likely the extermination of these spar-
Tows may prove to be a more difficult
task than the petitioners anticipate, but
it issomething worth trying, apparent
-Iy, \
Dawson is probably a 8 well supplied
with English sparrows as any town of its
size in the south, and while no effort has
ever been made to thin them out a war
of extermipation must be begun sooner
or later
