SOUTH BOUND FREIGHT.
Seabeard Air Line Won’t Accept
from the Plant System.
The Seaboard Air Line railway has
deelined to accept any longer south
bound freight from the Plant System
at Savannah. Heretofore the Florida
Central and Peninsular railway has
allowed the Plant System 1O turn
freight over to it at Savannah when it
was consigned from the east to points
on the line of the Florida, Central and
Peninsular. The Plant System has
been notified, however, that hereafter
reight from the east to points on the
‘Seaboard Air Line, which imcludes
the Florida Central and Peninsuiar,
must be turned over W the road at
Columbia, S. C. This step was taken
oy the Seaboard in order to get the
long haul.

'An English Woman’s Method of
i Attaining Longevity.
| Lady Mary Saurin, who died in Lon
'don the other day, havinge nearly com
' pleted her hundredth year, had, during
fher whole life, an unvarying habit of
eating something every two hours. She
never in any circumstances departed
'from the custom, @nd to it she ascribes
' her good health and longevity. When
i traveling or going about L.ondon she
' earried a little bag of sandwitches with
'her, and at the expiration of everytwo
' hours she would open her bag ard eat
'one or two. Up to the end of ber life
'the mini of this marvelous old lady
'seemed strong ard active and her
'memory was remarkable. At the time
of the battle of Waterloo her father,
Lord Harrowby, held office as presi
dent of the council, and his town house
was in Grosvenor square. Lady Mary
has often related the history of events
“at that critical moment and recounted
| vivid recollections of» the rejoicings
l and §lluminabions in London when the
| news of the Feal victory was received.
! She would also tell tales of the days of
the Chartists and the Cato street con

SUICIBES ON FUNERAL PYRES.
| So
Tragic Scenes at the Burning of
| Bodies in Galveston.
. Many traocic scenes have been wit
nessed at the pyres upon which the
bodies of the dead have been burned
in Galveston. Immense crewds have
gathered to witness these ghastly cer
emonies. As a rule they have bzen
effectively held back by military or
police, but now and then a man or wo
man would break past the line and
dash toward the blazing »ile in the
hope of reclaiming from the flames the
body of some one for whom all search
had been in vain.
There have been several suicides of
those who have cast themselves in ma
niacal despair upon these funeral pyres
and there would have been many more
had the rigor of the military cordon
been more generally relaxed. :
