COUNTY MATTERS.
The February Meeting of Board of
Commissioners.
At their February meetin> the board
0 county commissioners had several
matters before them of interest,
Commissioners Roberts and Pritch
ard recommended that a bridge and
turnpike be built across Chenubbee
creek on the new road from Sardis to
Parrott, provided the community will
build the turnpike.
Commissioner Roberts reported that
the arbitrators on the J. H. Sennclaim
for damages decided that $lO should be
paid Mr. Senn and that the ditch
ghould be filled up by the road hands.
Evans Toombs petitioned the board
for pay for damages to a mule that was
injured while crossing the bridge at
Styles’ ford. It was referred to Com
missioner Harris for investigation,

THE GRIP.
There Are Many Cases of It in
Dawson and Vicinity.
Have you had the grip? This is the
common greeting on the street these
days.
The grip seems to be more prevalent
in both the city and country this year
than ever before, and in some instances
the working forces have been consid
erably reduced.
Anybody who has had the grip can
sympathize with anybody else who has
had iv, as it gives a person a most
m:serable feeling. So far as is known
there have been no fatal cases, but it
makes a man feel like he is going to
die and he doesn’t much care if he
does. ‘
| La Grippe Quickly Cured.
' “In the winter of 1898 and 1899 I was
‘taken down with a severe attack of
}what is called La Grippe,” says F. L.
| Hewett, a prominent druggist of Win
field, lil. “The only medicine I used
‘was two bottles of Chamberlain’s
lCough Remedy. It broke up the cold
iand stopped the coughing like magic,
‘and T have never since been troubled
‘with Grippe.’” Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy can always be depended upon
to break up a severe cold and ward off
any threatened attack of pneumonia.
It is pleasant to take, too, which
makes it the most desirable and one of
the most popular medicines in use for
these ailments. For sale hy Farrar,

DAWSON WANTS ENCAMPMENT.
An Effort Will Be Made to Have the Fourth Georgia Regiment to
Through the efforts of Colonel W. E.

of the cities in the regiment’s territo

to secure it.
Captain H. A. Wilkinson of the
Dawson Guards states that Lis compa
ny will extend an invitation to the reg

the encampment for Dawson. The cit
izens of the town will also lend their
support to the movement, and every
inducement will be offered the soldiers
to spend two or three weeks in camp
here.
There are many reasons why Dawson

A Card of Thanks.
To the People of Bronwood: We al
ways find it a difficult task when we
approach a sad duty, but how much
more difficult is it when we wish to
express the sincerest gratitude of our
hearts to those who ministered to our
beloved father in his last illness. We
cannot find words adequate to express
our feelings to the good people of
| Bronwood for their kind ministrations
to our father, J. C. Avera. They left
| nothing undone that could minister to
‘his comfort and welfare, and we will al
ways feel the deepest sense of grati
tude to them for it. Our whole family
join me in this slight tribute. Very
truly, W. F. AVERA.

’should be looked upon favorably for
‘the encampment. The town is one of

ry embraced by the Fourth regiment,
there are several locations here emi
nently suitable for camping grounds,
water and light connections would be
made, and in fact everything done
which would add to the comfort and

It is hoped by all that Dawson will

It is understood that the other towns
that want the encampmentare Albany,

Several matters of importance occu
pied the attention of the city council
at their meeting Tuesday night. The

raised from $55 to $75 per month.
An important matter considered and

Crowell and R. R. Marlin being named
as such.
Several other mavters of minor im
