What Different Businesses Will Pay the City as Special Tax Dur
ing 1902. Very Few Changes Made by the Council
. in the Ordinance of Last Year.
At their recent moeting the city
- eour cil atopted the following specific
“2gx orainance for 1902:
SECTION 1. Be it ordained by the
mayor and city council o Dawoon
““that, from aond after the passage of
‘this ordinance, every person, firm or
zorporation who exercises or may €x
"~ ereise within the ecity any profession,
trade. calling or business of ‘any pa
ture whatever shall annually register
" in books to be kept for that purpose
" by the elerk of suid city council their
\names and professions, trades. calling
or business, and their place of busi
pess (if any) within the city by the
15th of January, 1902.
SperTioN 2. Be further ordained,
that all persons commencing aoy busi
saess of any kind after the 15th of
January 1902 shall register their busi
ness as soon as they shall commence
the same.
SEOTION 3. Be it further ordained,
that whenever any person or persons
having no fixed places of business
within the city but nevertheless exer
cise within the city any business what
ever, such person or persons shall be
required to register their names and
business and shall be subject to the
same or-like taxation on their busi
ness as is levied by the mayor and
council upon persous following a likel
business and having a tixed place of
business. '
SecTioN 4. All persons, firms, cor
porations or manufacturing companies
having either their business proper, or
their general or hranch offices or
agencies lecated within the corporaie
jimits of the city, r who are represent
ed in said city by officers or agents so
licitng or transacting business for
them within the corporate limits of
the city, shall be required to register
and take out the nccessary license
for said business prescribed in this
ordinance, and in default thereof
the ofticer or agenu for such person,
firm or corporation or manufacturiog
company shall be subject to the same
penalty as other persons who fail to
register and take out license.
SECTION 5. The mayor and council
shall impose such taxes from time to
time as they may deem just and equit
able upon all local and itinerant trad
ers or agents, or other persoos not
specially mentioned in this ordinance.
This ordinance shall be subject to al
teration and repeal in wgwle or in
partat any time, and no such amend
ment or repeal in any particular shall
be construed to deny the right of the
counncil to assess and collect any of the
tax or license charges prescribed.
SECTION 6. Transient tuvraders in
goods, wares and merchandise of any
description whatever, also agents or
canvassers for the sale of any article
whatever, itinerant physicians or sell
ers of proprietary articles or nostrums
before exposing or offering the same
for sa'e shall first register and nay
such special tax as is tixed in these or
dinavces or that may be hereafter or
at that time prescribed by the mayor
and couocil; and in default of such
registry and paymeant shall be puaish
ed by a fine not to exceed one hun
dred dollars or imprisonment or work
on the streets not to exceed sixty days,
either or both atthe disccetion of the
mayor.

Terrell County Pensioners Will Get Their
Money Next Month.
Confederate veteransin Terrell coun
ty who receive pensions from the state
will get their annual stipend on Febru
ary 19th, along with other veterans of
Baker, Early, Calboun, Dougherty,
Randoiph and Clav counties.
In paying pensions this year the pen
sion commissioner has arranged the
counties in bunches. Several counties
have been putin batches, and checks
will be sent to them on the same day.
Payments will eontinue until February
25th, when all the counties will have
been reached. :
